Magnesium Deficiency?? Need some help

by Achilles84, Sep 19, 2009 08:16AM
Hi there,

as a few of you might know I´m fighting with muscle weakness, twitches and loss of balance and coordination for more than 4 months know.

my muscles are shaking and vibrating strongly with every movement.every muscle feals heavy and gets easily fatigued....

it´s definatly no MS and all the neuro´s I visited say it´s no ALS also.No I´ve read a few articles about magnesium defiency symptoms and wonder if that could be the cause.I think my blood was testet for this, but from what I´ve read only 1% of mg are in  the blood and most in the cells and bones,so it would need special testing to find out.

so please if anyone experienced more serious or annoying muscle problems like I do,and it got better with more magnesium just write me or post a reply.I just hope someone eventually had the same trouble and was diagnoses with a deficiency...

or if you are a doc or someone with profound knowledge let me know if magnesium deficiency in fact could cause such severe effects.

extremly thankful for your help

Patrick

A low magnesium level can be associated with a variety of neuromuscular symptoms, including weakness, muscle spasms, as well as changes in mental status.

Furthermore, other metabolic conditions, like a low calcium or potassium level, can be associated with low magnesium levels as well.

The best way to check, of course, would be to simply draw blood and obtain the values of the electrolytes.  Normal vales would make these causes unlikely.

I would discuss this option with your neurologist or personal physician.
