Many ?unrelated? symptoms

I am at my wits end. About 2 months ago, I went off my birth control pill as it was not needed anymore. I started feeling drained and generally not myself. I assumed it was hormonal imbalance that would eventually mend itself.

Then about 3 weeks ago, I got a cold that was not severe in anyone's books, but it really took remainder of my energy away. About 1 week after that was gone, I started getting a fever and that lasted for about 5 days. The fever was in the range of 100 to 101 F and I must mention that i was not feeling any other symptoms, just achiness and fatigue related to fevers. About 4 days after the fever broke, I woke up with intense joint pain in my wrists and knees. The next day, it contimued, only worse. THis time including swelling in my feet and such swelling in my hands that I could barely clench my fists or move my thumbs. I am on my 3rd day of joint pain and finally had a blood test last night. My doctor says it is mono. I am confused as I have had mono about 15 years ago and it was very different than this and I do not have a sore throat, nor do I have white spots in or around my throat.

I am concerned that it is something else. I am now developing a headache and neck pain. Not to mention I am still having chills (about a 98 F fever) and I can barely walk. Getting up off my chair is excrutiatingly painful as it feels like my kneecap is going to burst.

Any ideas of what I might have? Anybody??

I have a name...finally. I was told that I have parvovirus which is a virus that attacks the joints when adults get infected with it. I also have costrochondritis which is the swelling of the sternum which is now causing me difficulty in breathing. It feels like my 10 year old is standing on my chest. I am now on anti-inflammatories.

I have almost the exact same symptoms as you.  I am waiting to get extensive blood work to hopefully find out what is going on.  I am wondering if it is just some weird random virus.
This started Sat. before Easter with severe fatigue, a headache, and chills.  (I did not check my temperature.)  I was extremely fatigued for 2.5 days.  I got better for a few days and then the fatigue set back in.  Yesterday I woke up with severe joint paint in my knees and wrists and moderate pain in my elbows, shoulders, and ankles.  My neck is a little stiff.  I was also extremely fatigued again.  The fatigue is gone today, but I still have significant joint pain in my knees and wrists.  I have never had joint pain like this before.
