Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Apart from fibromyalgia multiple joint pain is seen in hypothyroidism, low Vitamin D levels, Low Vit B12 levels, anemia, Hasimotos thyroiditis, gout (can sometimes cause multiple joint pain), rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, SLE, electrolyte disturbance particularly those involving calcium and magnesium, parathyroid gland problems, chondrocalcinosis and chronic fatigue syndrome. Depression , anxiety and stress are the other causes.Anemia, liver and heart problems (like rheumatism) can also be the cause.
I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I agree, a cardiac workup would be the first step, along with some general blood work to help rule out other serious illnesses.
Presuming all of those come back within normal liimits, it's possible that your brother is suffering from fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue symdrome. Some of the main symptoms of fibro and CF are widespread pain and unrelenting fatigue. The pain and fatigue can be quite severe and debilitating.
Any doctor can "diagnosis" fibro and CT, however, the best doctors to actually deal with and help treat the symptoms of these (they are not "curable", but the symptoms can be managed) would be a rheumatologist. In looking for a rheumy doc, ask them if they treat patiens with FMS and CF. Unfortunately, there are still a few doctors out there that do not believe that these conditions actually exist (even though they are quite recognized by the AMA) - and there are others that even though they know that the conditions exist, they don't have much experience in treating patients with them. So don't be afraid to ask what their experience in treating patients with these conditions is.
There is a fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue forum here on medhelp that you may find more ifnormation and help on. You're more than welcome to visit and post to any of the forums we have here, however, the fibro/CT forum may have the most useful information for you.
Your brother is very lucky to have such a caring, loving sibling. Dealing with chronic pain and fatigue can be very, very difficult for both the patient and the family/friend circle. It always helps to have people around that no only empathisize with the patient's pain and suffering, but also UNDERSTAND it. If your brother is diagnosed with FMS/CF, it will help both of you (and other family members and friends) to educate yourselves on the conditions as much as possible. One book that was great for me and my family when I was first diagnosed was "Fibromyalgia for Dummies". While it gave some medication information and technical information, it also was written in very good layman's terms and information that was very easy to understand. It made it so much easier for all of us to understand what was going on and what we could possibly do to help alleviate the sypmtoms. Like I said, there is no "cure" for these conditions, but if you know some ways to treatments to help keep the worst of the symptoms under 'control", it's easier.
Best of luck to both you and your brother. Please keep us informed as to how he's doing and what you find out.
Get a cardiac workup.... Don't wait.
