My doctor does not believe me

As I have posted on here earlier, I have been really sick for about a year with a multitude of symptoms.  The doctors have been doing all kinds of tests, but I think that because they can't find anything, they are beginning to not believe me.  My jaw has been numb for about 6 months.  It doesn't tingle, it gets actually numb, and it goes down my neck.  It isn't like this all the time, but if I get stressed, or if I'm tired, or even if I lift anything, my jaw goes completely numb.

I've asked and asked my doctor about this, and he simply says he doesn't know what could cause it.  Finally, the last time I was there, I asked again, and he said that he "certainly didn't think it warranted a visit to the neurologist!"  I asked him, since he doesn't have a clue what it is, just WHAT DOES IT WARRANT???

I don't know what to think about this, I don't really know what to do about it or where to go from here.  Anybody have any ideas?  I would really appreciate it.  It doesn't hurt, it is just extremely uncomfortable.

Thank you so much for the posts, I will try the jaw massage and I do need to see another doctor, I really am frustrated.

It is so true that the doctor might be overwhelmed, I have been ill for a year and hospitalized twice in critical condition and they can't find a thing!  Meanwhile, I get more and more symptoms and they are more confused than ever.

I know about ruling things out, I have had about every test in the book and still, nothing.  This all started when I had routine knee repair and the next day, I was violently ill and have been ill ever since.

It is so frustrating, but I will continue to post and let you know if they find anything at all.  Thank you again.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Numbness of jaw can be caused by nerve injury, compression or by TMJ. You have to press on muscles of the jaw to look for sore points. Then massage these points with short strokes. To massage the masseter muscles on each side of your jaw, place your thumb inside your mouth and squeeze the thick muscle in your cheek with your fingers. To massage the jaw muscles inside your mouth, use your index finger to probe and massage these spots. If this is due to TMJ it will help.
Please consult another doctor for a second opinion.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Change your PCP, get another opinion.  I know it can be VERY frustrating when a Physician tells you that they  have no idea whats going on.. and when its YOU feeling it, its almost like you start to think that the doctor is indifferent to you.

One of the most important things you can do, is to start with one thing at a time. Start a daily journal, write down your symptoms, what you are doing at the time the symptoms come.  Write down what you ate that day.. check into all the vitamins that you are taking..

when you go to a NEW doctor, strat out slowly, inundating a new doctor will only make them feel frustrated as well... take two most serious conditions and address them at your first visit, and touch upon the others if you feel that they are related.

A physician can only rule things out, order tests, ect ect.. they use the process of elimination. If the PCP you have now doesnt feel that you need to see a neuro, then leave them, you have to be aggressive sometimes when you know there is something going on.. Also, sometimes... things just  happen in our bodies without any rhyme or reason... i cant begin to tell you how much this happens with me as well.. BUT... if you feel as though there is something serious going on.. then get another PCP..

another thing... you need to obtain a copy of ALL your blood work, and all your visits.. EVERYTIME you see your doctor, as for a copy of any bloodwork that has been completed, as well as the office visit.  I do this because when I go to a specialist, i have everythng i need for the specialist to see and look over. this saves SO MUCH TIME.

I hope this helps you.... Im sorry that you are feeling so frustrated..
