My legs and feet feel like they are curling into a ball

by chucky63, Sep 09, 2009 11:06AM
I am a 63 year old female.  I still work as a Charter bus driver.  When I lay down, my lower legs and feet feel like they are tightening up like they are swelling but do not look like it, numbing, crawling feeling  and curling into a ball.  I have found that there are some materials that I am sentive to, like foam, feathers and some imatation materials.  So I have to try to sleep on cotton sheets, but can't always and even then I still have some of these symptoms.  Lately, I have noticed that when I sit for a while and them when I get up it is hard for me to start moving my feet and legs for a few minutes.  I am 5'10" tall and have gained 60 lbs since  I went through menapause, and  I did not start taking any suppliments when I did go through menapause.  I have heard lately that this my be a cause of my weight gain.  Does anyone know if any of this could be connected and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Chucky63

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Pain or soreness in the foot, that eases with time during the day, is generally indicative of plantar fasciitis. The first step you take generally after sitting or standing for a long time or when you get up from the bed is painful. As you start walking the pain clears up. Plantar fascia is a ligament that connects your heel bone to your toes. If it swells, becomes weak or inflamed, it causes these symptoms. After some time, you may feel pain always. The other possibility is osteoarthritis. This also causes pain worse after inactivity—the first few steps always painful.  Since you are in menopausal age group, osteoarthritis is a possibility. Also since you have a feeling of curling of foot, plantar fasciitis too is a possibility. Please consult an orthopedic specialist regarding this.
Regarding crawling sensation: In menopausal age, this is a common symptom. It is also seen in people who are very anxious and stressed out. Very dry skin and disorders of thyroid gland all can precipitate a crawling sensation. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
