Neck pain/ dizziness

My wife has had the above condition for several years. Sudden pain from top of neck which travels almost to back of her head. Until recently, these episodes have ended almost immediately and the pain went away. The episodes occur about twice/three times per month.... always during the morning - before noon.  Very recently, the attacks have become worse whereby she has to lie down and take a pain killer (GP advice).  She will  then sleep for more than an hour after which she is ok except from some residual neck discomfort.  She has had scans which show that the carotid arteries are clear. We suspect a form of arthritis - can anything be done to help..sleeping position, she uses one pillow..posture - an attack this morning was immediately after a fairly lengthy phone call,

Peter.

She seems to have spasms on top of ice-pick migraine headaches.
Don't know for sure, since I am only another patient/sufferer.  I take Magnesium for muscle spasms (I have Fibromyalgia).  And I take CoQ10, Calcium and Vitamin B6 for migraine headaches. -
You might try a telephone with a speaker system - so she doesn't have to hold the phone to her ear when she talks.   Holding the phone for a long time can cause a spasm in that arm and shoulder.

PS  I hate taking chemicals and take Naproxen only if my alternatives don't work.

Possibly a cervical spondylosis. May be a cervical collar be of benefit. Do consult Doc.
