Numbness / Paralysis in little finger

by trub, Jul 28, 2006 12:00AM
My Nan has had a hip operation 5 weeks ago and has been using a walking frame , initially she was being alot of weight on it and since then she has been unable to use her little fingers on either hand and her middle finger keeps locking down once bent.

What could be the problenm?

Nan needs to be re-evaluated w/ the height & see how she is using the walker. The problem is probably too much weight she's
putting on wrists for balance/moving. She needs it just for the
support & not full body weight. She needs to flex-out her fingers & bend wrists up to stretch out tendons frequent. She's
getting the bent finger from a spasm that can freeze up if this
isn't ck'd. Sometimes a spongy ball to squeeze will excercise
& tone muscles for fingers. At end of day, try warm towels
around wrists few min. & then slowly bend wrists down. Shouldn't
be hunching over walker alot or the wrists can get damaged.
Make sure shoes/slippers are fit good so there's no chance of
her a tripping. Gd-luck.
