Oral Thrush or no

Oral Thrush or no?

Everything started 5 weeks ago when I started not feeling well when I was eating.. My tongue was tingling...
I was really tired so decided to do nothing on the weekend and not very hungry.
I look at my mouth and I got white patches on the tongue with ulcers as it was really painful.
The next day it got worst my all tongue was coated in white and I couldn’t eat or drink for 5 days because it was so painful!
I went to the doctor and she gave me amoxicillin and daktarin, but 3/4 days later no improvement and I was really weak.
I went to hospital where they gave me nystatin and told me to stop amoxicillin and also gave a mouth wash to ease the pain.
The large coating started to disappear 2/3 days after but kept having the white patches, especially in the morning, when I wake up.
After 3 bottles of Nystatin the doctor gave me fluconazole, 50mg a day for 2 weeks, to try to make disappear this white patches and small red spots on the tongue.
It s been a week since I have finished the fluconazole treatment and the white patches on the tongues are still there just in the morning, and this red spots are tingling!
I had all the blood test, and everything is fine with my blood.
I am trying to avoid sugar as much as I can and doing well, no ice cream, no alcohol, no chocolate....
I am also taking oregano oil, pau d’arco and garlic supplements.
Not too sure what to do now and how to get rid of these red spots and white patches!

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

thank you for your comments above.
I have forwarded to my doctor and see what she thinks.. no answer yet..
for now she gave me an other prescription of Nystatin for another week until i see her next tuesday.
She also said i will receive a letter to refer me to a specialist... not too sure which specialist! (UK system!)

I got the thrush after being sick (flu) 2 times in 2 months and caught an infection under harmpit (maybe because of a rasor..), so my immune system was quite low... (also i had an emotional problem, breakup, so might have been the cause too but i am doing ok)

I will see and let you know...
Many thanks again..

Kind regards

Elodie

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Well since you are getting partial relief by local antifungal agent, it could be fungal infection. This can be cultured or diagnosed by a slide. Various reasons for recurrent fungal infection are incomplete treatment, treatment resistance, co-existing dermatitis, diabetes and low immunity. In mouth it can also be due to reflux. You may need to take oral antifungal pills twice a week for 3-4 weeks along with local application of antifungal lotion. There are many types of antifungals available. Take an OTC antifungal with a combination of two or more anti fungals. Get your blood sugar checked. Take antacid gel and Omeprazole along with antifungal. A bland diet will also help reduce irritation.
Please discuss this with your treating doctor.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
