Oral thrush?

The back of my tongue has bumps and what appears to be oral thrush. No pain or bleeding. Can you confirm this, and what should I do about it? What could be the cause? Thanks.

Sodium Perborate (aka Vince's Mouthwash) should take care of the problem.  Tastes minty and is a great rinse.  Pink powder in a rectangular bottle/jar from Walgreens or Walmart.

It is not normal to have a coated tongue or the white spots on the back or on any part of the tongue or mouth.

A white coating can be from stomach problems or from Thrush.  It will also feel dry and uncomfortable in the mouth.

The best person to see with this problem is the doctor and a swab would confirm the condition.   Sometimes the doctor (or pharmacist) knows what it is by just looking at the tongue.

Bumps in the back of your tongue are normal.  But if they hurt or are painful then see a Dr.
If your worried or they are getting worse see a Dr. or Dentist.  Either can see them and give you the medications needed to treat them.
Also eat yogurt (Greek kind) each day.  This can help with issues such as this.
Lastly, why do you think its oral thrush?  If there is a good reason then you should see a Dr, but if you searched on the internet and now you think you have it, then you might not.  Either way, see your Dr or dentist and they can help you overall.
good luck

Having looked at your photograph, it does appear that you have oral Thrush.  Of course, a you would require a doctor to give you the correct diagnoses and a swab of your mouth would confirm for definite whether this is Thrush or not.

If you are unable for whatever reason to see a doctor, you can go to you pharmacist and ask him.  For oral thrush you do require the correct medication and you can purchase without or without a prescription from your doctor an oral gel to treat oral thrush called Daktarin.  You can purchase this from your pharmacy.

Nystatin drops is another treatment for oral thrush, but I believe you can only get this by prescription from your doctor.

At home, you can eat natural live yogurts, cut out or cut down on sugary foods and drinks.  Ensure good oral hygiene, if you wear dentures make sure that you observe good hygiene and keep them thoroughly clean, stop smoking or cut down.  Maintain a healthy and well balanced diet with plenty of water to drink.  If you do have diabetes make sure that your sugar levels are well controlled.

Like Niko says the use of antibiotics can also bring about thrush, whether this is in the mouth or on the genitals.  If you are run down or anaemic this too can bring on Thrush.

There is a single dose oral capsule that you can buy from the pharmacy without a prescription and this is Fluconazole 150mg - this is mainly used for genital Thrush.  Fluconazole 50mg comes in a packet of 7 capsules that are taken 1 a day for 7 days.

Sometimes furring of the tongue happens for other reasons other than Thrush so it important for you to see your doctor to diagnose correctly what is causing your furry tongue and prescribe you with the appropriate treatment.

Best wishes.

Hi Jane95.

It looks like oral thrush and the most significant aspect of it is
the presence of   bumpy lesions containing whitish pus, mainly on the tongue, but can be found on other parts of the oral cavity as well.
Please note that no-one can confirm it is oral thrush, as it would be unethical to do so.
This is not a place here to get a medical diagnosis.
For a medical diagnosis, you must be seen and examined by a medical doctor.

The cause is a fungal infection, called candida, which is basically a yeast imbalance.
This imbalance is due to a variety of different possible factors, such as medications including birth control pills & antibiotics, stress, diet high in sugars &  carbs, other medical conditions, hormonal changes etc.

"Oil Pulling" with organic virgin coconut oil, would be a fast & easy first line remedy, as coconut oil has good anti-fungal properties.
Just look it up.
An anti-candida diet would be also strongly recommended.

If your symptoms do not subside or if it gets any worse, you may need to see a doctor for proper assessment and treatment.

Hope it helps.
Best wishes.
Niko
