Your symptoms are suggestive of sinus pain which can be the result of the cold or rhinitis that you had. The sinuses are air-filled spaces lined with mucous membranes surrounding the forehead, cheeks and eyes. Healthy sinuses allow mucus to drain and air to circulate throughout the nasal passages. When sinuses become inflamed, these areas get blocked and mucus cannot drain. This lack of proper sinus drainage can lead to infection. Worse pain in the morning because mucus has been collecting and draining all night.
Diagnosis can be made by examination, transillumination, xrays, a CT scan, or an MRI.
Try an over-the-counter (OTC) decongestant combined with an anti-inflammatory analgesic (pain reliever) like Ibuprofen. However, you should not use decongestants for more than 5-7 days at a time. Avoid indigestible, spicy, foods and meats. Eat simple or wholesome food. Obtain needed out-of-door exercise, sunbaths, and swimming.
Symptoms can also be relieved by using a saline nasal spray or nasal spray that contains corticosteroids. Corticosteroids work by helping to reduce inflammation and congestion.
The golden rule for chronic stuffy nose is steam inhalation. Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot (but not boiling water) may help to soften, and loosen, the build up of mucus in your sinuses thus relieving the pain.
These remedies should work for you. If the symptoms still persist then pls consult an ENT specialist.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries.
