PLEASE HELP ME - Chronic stomach pain and dropping weight, heavy sleeping.. ruining my life

by tmt731, Oct 24, 2009 01:00AM
I have had long term stomach pain for about 3 years now and have recently began experiencing new symptoms including anemia, weight loss (about 15-20 pounds in a month) and sleeping around 12 hours a night. I have been really dizzy and weak and the doctor associated that with the anemia but doesn't know why I am having these stomach pains with the weight loss. I've also been having these fast sort of shudders down my left arm... feels like a nerve just went off really fast or something. It's a very bizarre feeling. Anyways, I've had blood tests done, 24 hour urine done and a CT of my abdomen and pelvis. All have come back normal except for the anemia. I have these bouts of horrible pain in my stomach followed by extreme weakness and fatigue and am so tired of it all. I'm having issues going to class (I'm a college student) because I am so tired and I'm worried I'm going to have an episode in class. ANY ideas you have for further testing or diagnoses are much appreciated. I have seen my family doctor, an internist and a gastroenterologist.. any other ideas? My boss said maybe a neurologist? Please help me. I'm only 19 years old and otherwise a healthy, 5'11'' 137 lb female. I'm so tired of no one believing me and feeling like a hypochondriac. Please give me your ideas.

Thank you so much.

Have you had any allergies checked? Food allergies can cause severe stomach pain.

ask for a full work up of all gluten sensativities.  Celicac's disease is very treateable.  Try eating food with 100% NO grains for a few days as broad self test.  Don't give up.  I was told for almost 4 years that my extreme, nausea inducing fatigue was "anxiety" until I ran across a wonderful doctor who actually listened to my symptoms and scheduled me for a sleep study right away.  Turns out, I had undiagnosed narcolepsy for years.  Feeling great now that I'm on the right medicine and I'm not scared anymore when I get tired now that I know why.
