PLEASE HELP!

by VioletQuinn, Oct 18, 2009 07:51PM
im a 15 year old girl. 5'2".  103 lbs. ive lost weight since late august. 12 lbs in all. and ive been exercising and eating the same until recently. ive been feeling nauseous in the mornings for a while, but now its constant and my appetite isnt nearly as much as it was. i'll eat light meals every day cuz i feel like if i eat more, i'll be really sick. i can't sleep very well, and even if i get more than 7 hours of sleep, i feel absolutely exhuasted. any sort of physical work seems impossible. i tried to run earlier today and only made it half of a block before i stopped because i couldnt breathe and my head was pounding. ive been having pains in various places, including my chest (pressure, frequent), head (piercing, frequent), back (dull, constant), and right side (sharp, stabbing, frequent). the thing that really scares me though is that ive had a cyst on my right jawline for years, but the doctor said it was fine unless it started to grow or hurt. The past week, ive had a radiating pain from my right jaw down my neck and throat, and i dont think its grown, but im afraid to touch to find out because it hurts. i went to the doctor in early september, but they didnt find anything, but all they did was an ANA test  (which was negative) and tell me i had costo chondritis (rib lining inflammation) and anxiety. parents wont listen. please help me!!!!!!

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Unintentional and unexplained weight loss of this magnitude is definitely not good. There are many causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Either you do not eat well (but you say you do) or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc. Poor absorption as in irritable bowel syndromes and malabsorption syndromes too is possible. Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease.
The list looks daunting and scary. However on net a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given. Hence I have enumerated the possibilities that come to my mind right now. Worms in stool should definitely be looked into. The symptoms like chest and body pain can be the result to weight loss. Yes, the cyst should be looked into, especially since it is paining. Either a fine needle aspiration or a CT scan should be done. Definitely the weight loss should be investigated.
Please discuss this with your doctor and your parents. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Thank you so much for the advice! I'm definitely going to talk to my parents again to try to get another appointment, and then i'll bring this up to my doctor.
