Pain Under Right Ribs

Hello, and thank you for your response. For the past 3 days now I have been experiencing a constant pain under my right rib cage. It does not feel very severe, and it almsot feels like it is coming from my actual ribs, and not from anything under them. Sometimes it feels like a burning sensation on the right ribcage, and the pain sometimes extaneds to mid mid-back muscles feeling sore. Also to note, the re has been the sensation of a dull ache near the middle of my chest extending to my left ribcage on occasion when the pain in my right ribcage begins to hurt. I am not sure what this could be, and cannot go to see my doctor until I return home from law school in a month. I am otherwise healthy I think, as I have ahd blood tests done 3 months ago and everything was ok. Do you think this is something of concern? Thank you very much.

It sounds like you are experiencing Gallstones to me. That is how my pain began before I had to have mine Gallbladder removed. Have this checked ASAP, you DO NOT want to get and infection along with the stones the pain can be excruciating. Do like my Mom did, she had an ultrasound which diagnosed stones and then had the Gallbladder removed Laproscopically. Do not wait to have this checked. Good Luck!

It is difficult to say without examination.

A GI evaluation can be started with a liver function test and abdominal ultrasound. An upper endoscopy can be considered if there is suspicion of the an ulcer or inflammation of the upper GI tract.

If there is concern about the ribs themselves, a plain film can exclude a fracture.  Further imaging can be considered with a bone scan.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
