Pain and discomfort in left shoulder

by JacobK, Nov 07, 2005 12:00AM
two months ago, I fell and hit my left arm just below the shoulder.  I have been to my PCP and physical therapist and both say I may have a torn rotator cuff.  X-Ray were negative.  My PCP recommended a MRI, only to get denied by the HMO.

I did 8 PT session to get my range of motion back, but the pain in my shoulder is stil l there.

The pain consists of a sharp, buring sensation that ranges from y shoulder to the elbow, dull aching pain in the upper arm, difficultly sleeping at if I lay on the arm, and basic tasking, like removing something from the shelf or turning a door knob causes pain.

I went to a othropedic, who said I have a muscle bruise.  I have had a muslce bruise before, and this does not feel like one.  I was given Indocin and told to come back after I finish the medication.

Could this be just a muscle bruise are something more serious?

Thanks
JK

Sounds like a RTC injury  to me. I have similar symptoms and just had an MRI, will know the results in a couple days. 5 years ago I had similar symptoms and had a RTC tear and subsequent surgery. That was in my right shoulder, now the left one is bothering me.

Hello, I really understand what you are going through. I unfortunately feel I have made the wrong descision by having open reduction surgery for severe shoulder impingement, bone spurs, and tears on both shoulders which was very painful caused by overuse as a welder and a fall from football years ago. I have had five shoulder surgeries since 1995 which caused much scar tissue; I have to deal with it all the time. The symptoms were burning, constant aching, and sharp pain while laying on it, lifting, or over-head reaching. If you have to have surgery I would suggest arthroscopic if you can. It heals faster with less scar tissue. Good luck with state industrial they can be a pain. Tim

poping bones in shoulder and neck pain on the left side

After carrying much weight in shoulder bags on both shoulders at once for about two miles, I have had chronic itching at my left shoulder blade, mild (sub-morphine)-level) surging pain at an intercostal or similar muscle between two front ribs on my left side and near the rhomboid muscle high on the left side of my back.
I did some back exercises, stretching, and trunk and back rotating/twisting calestenics  to get things straightened out, and hope any nerve inflammation that might have caused this pain will subside and the pain will then go away.
