about 6 years ago i woke up one day with severe vertigo and i feel like nothing has ever been completely right since then. for a few weeks after the vertigo i felt a funny sensation on my face - like slight numbness. i went to the doctor and they just said i probably needed more sleep (i was in college). eventually the sensation went away, but i've always felt some sensitivity to light since then, and lately i've been having slight balance issues. i always ignored it and never went back to the doctor, as the different pains started creeping in; i eventually graduated and started work, and about one year ago i started having major freakouts because of all the unexplained symptoms, i ended up going to the emergency room because i had shortness of breath, pain, and i even felt like my heart had stopped. they diagnosed me with anxiety, but i told them about all the symptoms before. i have had a chest x-ray, blood test, EKG, and it seems normal. i also had a testicular ultrasound and it seems normal.
but lately i've been very worried because everything is STILL there and i want it to get fixed already. i don't know what to do.
I also suggest having your ANA level checked for an autoimmune disorder. It is difficult, I know because they think it is in your head. It is real so be persistent!

I read these symptoms and yes, I have a lot of them. It seems though that many of them are psychosomatic in nature. For example, the whole sleep thing - I know it's related to anxiety because I never have sleeping trouble on the weekends when I don't have to get up for work. But today - again I couldn't sleep very well at all, and I gotta drive quite a bit for work. The symptoms feel worse when I'm anxious like this, but my heart is not beating faster.. my brain is just too anxious to go to sleep. It's horrible.
I have my counselor appt. tomorrow --- my doctor originally told me that I don't have anything despite my asking for a body scan -- and he said he'd refer me for a scan if the counselor said to. But I don't know what to do now. I'm an otherwise generally happy person, I have a beautiful girlfriend, a pretty good job, etc. but this is really messing me up, especially the last two weeks when for whatever reason I can't sleep on the weekdays. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all.
