Pain in left side of chest....

I have a pain in my chest that seems to have moved around a bit. Initially it was right above my left nipple, but it's moved down to my lower ribs. It kind of feels like a dull ache, but every once in a while (twice a month) there's a sharp pain there.

Breathing seems to help the sharp pains go away. I don't have trouble breathing ever, nor do I have troubles doing anything. Actually, hard work helps a lot. I recently just moved into a new place, and lifting all the heavy boxes pretty much left me feeling great. Standing up helps too.

The problem usually arises when sitting or laying down. If I lay down on my right side it helps some, but my left occasionally makes it feel worse. Lying on my back helps a lot, but I can't get to sleep that way.

I have a similar problem right above my right leg, around the lower stomach. I

Also, when I push on my ribs in the area it hurts, it feels almost like a bruise, but not quite. When I stop pushing on it, I feel like I just pushed on a bruise, as there's a much more significant pain than usual that lasts a minute or two.

It's hard to get a feel on where the pain exists though. When I push on the ribs, it seems like a surface pain, but usually it almost feels like the pain exists behind the ribcage.

I also notice that standing up almost immediately relieves the pain. I can still have the ache when I'm standing up, but it's always better than when I'm sitting down.

I sometimes wonder if it's posture related. I try to sit up straighter in my chair and that sometimes make it feel better, but I feel more rigid and not nearly as relaxed. It seems like as soon as I start to relax, that's when the discomfort occurs.

You may have a hiatus hernia this can cause discomfort on the left side behind the rib cage. It is normally worse when lying down and standing up normally eases pressure around the stomach.
