Pain in left temple and upper neck; strong pressure on left temple area.

In the middle temple area of the left side of my forehead (exactly in the location of the vein), I am experiencing severe pain and feeling extradorinary pressure. My left eye has also been getting reddish in hue, and it appears as though my blood vessels are showing. This has been constant for about two days. In addition, the left side of my upper neck is also feeling great amounts of pain, so that I have difficulty keeping my neck straight; when I try and move or bend my neck, I feel intense pressure there as well. It feels as though someone has tightly gripped my vein. Also, at one point I started feeling extremely hot and felt like I was sweating, but I didn't actually sweat. The pain is completely concentrated, and I am not feeling it anywhere else except for a portion of the left side of my head, namely across the temple vein. The temple vein, however, isn't visible or elevated, but my whole head seems to be weighed down.

Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if the symptoms are severe enough to merit seeing a doctor.

Thank you,

Cinthy.

I have had the most intense sharp shooting pain that goes from right in the middle between my left shoulder and left side of my neck and shoots up the left side of my neck, up into right behind my left ear and down onto my shoulder blade. It's been like this for 3 days and now it's going up into the left side of my face. I went to the doctor and all they did was take an xray (which came back normal), sent me home with some Vicodin and told me to follow up in 10 days if the pain persists. Does anyone know what this could be? It's keeping me from eating and sleeping because the pain is so bad. Please help.

I too have been experiencing the left temple pain, down the left side of my neck.  It feels like if I could crack my neck the neck pain would subside.  I'll have a little nausea also, my BP sometimes goes up (on meds for that).  I'm still thinking it may be anxiety more than anything but it's still very frustrating.  I don't want to eat Ibuprofin or aspirins for a headache.  There is a slight disorientation for me and my ear feels like it needs to pop (like when going up or down in a plane).  I saw my eye doc a couple of months ago and everything is healthy with my eyes (he took some pics of the inside of my eye and they looked good).  Any feed back is appreciated (and knowing I'm not the only one feeling these symptoms.

You could be experiencing occipital neuralgia (look it up on the Internet) or you could very well have cervical vertebrae problems.
I get this exact same pain when my C2 vertebra rotates and it brings about blinding pain.
Usually the physiotherapist massages it back into place but within 48 hours it rotates, usually to the opposite side causing the same incapacitating pain on the other side.
I get so ill from this pain I would say it was 9/10 pain and it makes me feel nauseous.
I'm seeing the surgeon about getting some kind of nerve block.
Will come back to this forum then.
Have some x-rays done on your neck and an MRI.

i have been suffering from chronic sinusitus for the past 2 years, i changed my diet and it had improved a lot, alcohol is a trigger also i avoid smoking. i try to drink plenty of water which also helps,

i used to take a lot of anti biotics but i dont any more as it always returned afterwards i just dont seee the point.

when i do get an attack, i get a severe oain in my left eye, all ledt hand side of my face and left ear and throat, as a result of it i get frequent episodes of vertigo, which i now manage initially it terrified me.
i would also feel like i have travel sickness.

i am prone to low pressure also not svere but some days i would be very light headed and my surroundings seem surreal almost.

avoid stress and go for plenty of walks in the cold evening air,

this is the only way ican help mine.

hope this helps.

all the best,

Nicola Ireland

Wow I did not know that so many people suffer from this Left temple pain. My left temple pain comes and goes. When it comes it is sharp but only last a few seconds. Its scary because all i can think of is if it isa tumor or annuerism or something. Sometimes I have a dull neck pain on the left side but it comes and goes as well. Are there after effects when a migraine is about over? and how long do migranes really last?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
How are you?

From your symptoms,it looks like migraine headaches to me.
Stress is one of the most important factors for the precipitation of migraine headaches. Migraine attacks commonly activate the sympathetic nervous system in the body. The sympathetic nervous system is often thought of as the part of the nervous system that controls primitive responses to stress and pain, the so-called "fight or flight" response. The increased sympathetic nervous activity in turn causes headaches, diarrhea, sensitivity to light and sound sensitivity as well as blurred vision.

Treatment of migraine involves using a cold compress to the area of pain, resting in a room with little or no sensory stimulation (light, sound, and odors), Withdrawing from stressful surroundings and sleeping. You can also try OTC pain killers. If still the symptoms persist, then please consult a physician for specific anti-migraine therapy.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I was in McDonald and this guy hit me with his elbow near to the left temple in my head , after that I had a big bump on my head, is now 3 weeks after the injury and the bump is almost gone, but the site of the injury still hurts  part  if I touch it.Is that normal? I also feel my left eye tired and out of focus. But I think if he hit the left side it should be the right eye the one  that is affected. Can it be a hematoma?
What do you think I should do?
I do not have insurance.

I have a pain in my left temple and pressure over the left eye. Also my my ear has pressure it feels like it is plugged . I feel like something is trying to drain in my throat but nothing is draining. I have also been experiencing shortness of breath and weird sensations on the left side of my chest. I love to exercise and this afternoon about 3hours after working out I experienced the accelerated heartbeat and dizziness. I don't  want to have a heart attack or stroke. any feedback would be useful

I have the same symptoms and was diagnosed with TMJ syndrome. It's been triggering my migraines. I have pain at the temples that radiates over my ear down my neck to my shoulders. I am wearing a bite splint now at night that has an NTI-TSS device in front to keep me from bringing my back teeth together. I've been clenching and grinding my teeth at night. If you haven't already, check for a TMJ specialist (dentist usually) in your area who may be able to find a solution. About 75% of people who use an NTI-TSS device, I'm told, find relief from headaches, so hopefully it will work. (I've had these problems for almost a year. :-(

I've had the same symptoms you described for the past 2 weeks.  Pain in left temple, up, over and around my ear and down my neck onto my shoulder.  I was told it is an atypical migraine and was given meds. I don't feel the effects of them working yet.  I' m going to see a chiropractor tomorrow and have a CAT scan for Wed.  Hopefully the massage will work. I'd like to here about your results and if you've had this pain everyday for 3 months or on and off?  It's a relief to know that others go through similar experiences.

I've had the same symptoms for the last 3 months.  The pain in my left temple is not as intense but the pressure is there almost always.  It radiates to the back of my left side of neck.  I've racked my brain and can't think of anything different I've used or done to bring on this pain.  My symptoms don't fit into the "classic" symptoms of a migraine.  I saw a neurologist and he put me on migraine meds, not helping by the way, and I'm schedueled for a MRI Monday.  I'll let you know results.  Let me know what you find out also!!  Thanks!!

You bet it is. Call your Dr. on Mon. for walk-in if possible or
explain to someone that you're not sure if they should see you
1st or if you should go to the Opthalmologist. The severe
temple pain has nerves that also extend over to the eye. So you
need to figure out if it's migraine/vascular compression/vessel
sweeling behind orbit. My choice would be to call Opthalmologist
to do thorough exam asap to rule out anything w/ the eye. The
pressure may be culprit of red vessels. Once you rule out that
there's no growth or infection, go to your Dr. They can decide
on trial meds/mri/referral to Neurologist. If it's continuing
pain, try hot-moist compresses. If it's a sharp sudden ice-pick
stabbing pain at temple, heat will help & it may be a distant
problem coming from the sinuses. You may need a Coronal CT.
Sinus infections can be there w/o you having the nose symptoms.
You didn't mention your ear hurting so that's a good thing.
Don't doddle when it comes to the eye. It may be infection
close by & try to catch problem now. Try to avoid meds for 8
hrs pre-exams even for eye. It will mask the present problem of
inflammation you're experiencing. Take something w/ you or ask
Dr. for a script or sample till you get some direction. Gd-luck
