Pain with inhaling

I didn't know which forum to post in because not sure what is wrong.  I am hoping someone will see this and have had a similar experience. A few days ago i found myself continually rubbing my rib area (upper right abdomen) It felt like my ribs were bruised as they were sore. The next day was the same, except now i had pain when inhaling. This is day 3 and still the pain, also tender to touch. I called off work because i know there is no way i could do it as i am a waitress which requires alot of running around, and carrying heavy  trays. I do breath easier if i lay on my right side which is strange because that is the side the pain is on. I know i did not do anything to hurt the rib area so am thinking it has to be a body organ. Gallbladder, liver, strain? (but dont remember doing anything to cause a strain) Anyone out there with a similer experience? Tthanks

Thank you so much for replying. Have researched a little myself and was hoping that it might not be something extremely serious. Without health insurance cant be running to the Dr. over everything. It is scary and painful though.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
A bruised tender feeling in the rib area can be due to a muscle pull or it can be due to costochondritis inflammation of the joint between rib and sternum. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. Heat application, and analgesic creams help.
The other less likely possibility is liver infection, gall stones and duodenal ulcer. However if the above remedy does not help, consult your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Hope this helps.
