Panic, is there a cure?

by Jerry123, Jun 22, 2006 12:00AM
I have some symptoms that just pop up with no clue, and then disappear.  But how I describe them?  I feel on the edge, like going to explode, unbalanced, dizzy and scared of faint, blush, and want to stop what every i'm doing, and just stand up to hold and relax myself.  The Dr. said it's anxiety disorder, and i have to take a medicine, called Alprox.  However I heard on the net there is no medicine to cure such symptoms, and the only practical and successful way is the Linden Method, which I should buy their kit.
However Im' still worried if such symptoms are Anxiety/Panic Attacks or they could be caused by some illness in head or so...damn it!  They make me feel so scared and the feeling is hard to describe to Dr.'s

Have your Thyroid checked out.  Make sure you are eating foods with iodine in it, or take a kelp tablet.

The Linden method will cost money.  I have no idea if it works or not but can tell you that medications definitely work.

You might want to try some other things first like excersise, listening to music, meditiation, but if the anxiety is getting worse and is affecting your life badly then don't be afraid to try the medication the doctor is offering.

Good luck.

Your symptoms do sound like anxiety attacks to me.  A good friend suffered from them, and finally ended up going to a psychologist.  She was given a number of techniques to practice as soon as she felt an attack coming on.  She didn't think the psychologist could help but basically went because her husband insisted.  She found that once she put his ideas into practice the symptoms began to gradually diminish.  She's only had a couple of attacks this year and she's able to nip them in the bud pretty quick.  Just a thought.

Hi I totally agree that relaxation therapy, psychotherapy and meds help anxiety related symptoms. However I would get the medical side checked out first as there are two many people whose Drs dx them with anxiety related disorders before looking at physiological reasons for their problems. If it turns out it is anxiety you may find a combination of any or all the three things work for you. Good Luck and Take Care. XXChris

What tests should be made first before judging that it's anxiety?

Is the CBC blood test enough?  Casual checking using the pressure and hearing the heartbeats?

Thanks!

Hi, Im not up on what tests you need but Starqueens thyroid test suggestion is good place to start. Chris

Your doctor should perform a few tests to rule anything else out. If everything comes back okay, then I would go with his diagnosis of Anxiety/Panic Disorder. He then should refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist. A psychologist will give you counseling and breathing techniques to help you calm down, etc. A psychaiatrist usually does a LITTLE bit of that, but they're also able to prescribe medication. Sometimes Anxiety is something that can be treated with congnitive behavior therapy, and sometimes it is a chemical imbalance in the brain, and you need a little extra help, such as medication. I, myself, am currently on Effexor and sometimes Xanax for Anxiety and Panic and I have been okay with it. Good luck and God Bless!
