Petechiae anyone?

Has any of you ever had those tiny pin point red dots show up on your skin?  I have quite a number of them on one finger and thumb, and a few here and there on other fingers as well.  Doctor was not overly concerned with them, but will run a bloodtest anyway to check for low platelet count.  Have had them for about three weeks, and they don't seem to be going away.

Hi - can you provide a source showing how Petechae can be linked to cirrhosis of the liver please?  Or at least let us know where you heard it please.

I find that quite interesting however I've never hear that one.

I had some blood samples taken for testing but it will be a while before I get results.  I never had them before that I noticed and they don't seem to be going away after about 3 weeks now.  At times my skin seems to almost peel and get rough in the area of these things.

Another thing I've noticed is that I bruise easily, but so far nothing as far as my kidneys or liver has shown up as a problem in a blood test.

I would definately have your liver checked out. If you drink alcohol it would be a good idea to stop drinking until you figure this out and get a diagnosis. Petechiae can be a sign of underlying illness such as cirrhosis of the liver and of blood disorders as well as from less benign causes so it is important to be diagnosed and not try to diagnose it yourself. Have a doctor do a thorough blood work up. There are many possible causes of petechiae. Common causes include: injury or trauma, allergic reactions to medications,  autoimmune disorders, which are conditions in which the person's body creates antibodies to its own tissues for unknown reasons.liver disorders, such as cirrhosis

There are different types of petechiae. No idea abt ones that
are localized on finger/thumb. Never heard of & am wondering if
Dr. has wrong dx? Anyway, the bright red dots some get are just
nothing unless you have several appearing close in time & then
I think it was a liver or kidney function sign to further ck.
These can be flat &/or sz of tiny elev. blood blister. There is
another I found out hard way. They look like you were poked w/
a pin-***** or some sz of pin-head. Mine appeared 1st the lower shins & moved up months later. Some went to back of legs & on to
stomache. Some were tiny crusted specks & then appeared again
as red dots. Not many Dr.s are familiar w/ all types. I was
lucky. Dr. took 1 look & said allergy to 'sulfonamide' in many
rx's. I was on a BP med w/ HCT (hydrochlorothiazide), a type of
diuretic. The sm. vessels inflame/surface/bleed/crust/wash off/
then start over. Stopped HCT & all disappeared in 2 mo. I was told, those docs that know, don't even test & stop HCT. The red
blister type may be genetic & show early in guys under 20 &
some women depending on their hormones. My dad had alot by 45.
Bro. had a few age 19. I have 2 on stomache & I'm much older.
If you have the leg type I mentioned, ck. meds w/ pharmacy. If
it's allergy to sulpha (not food type), you must stop med or it
can progress to give internal problems. Some Dr's will do a
punch biopsy if concerned.

I am glad you posted this issue.  I was searching the net last couple of day regarding this.
I have pin size blood blisters like, on my abdomen.  Some are raised and some are flat they are red, not purple and I don't consider them a rash.  Have a few on my upper legs.  I didn't find anything that looked like mine.  The pictures at different sites that showed Petechiae and/or Purpura does not look like what I have.

I also have some other spots that are bigger, red, flush with the skin, no itch or pain, or scaly, not what I would call blood blisters or even a rash.  They appear on my stomach 1 or 2 at a time a few inches apart and takes a few months to fade away.  The this month I found two more red, raised pumps on my legs above the knee and approx 6" apart.  and again they are not sore, pain, scaly, etc.  I just now found another spot on the inside of my arm, maybe pea size.

I don't know what is going on so I also would like to hear some input regarding these issues.  I keep forgetting to ask my doctor because I am in a hurry to get out of there and its hours away from other doctors or specialist.

Hi, Ive got quite a few of these on my stomach, legs, back of hands. I never thought anything about it really as I,ve had a few for years. I don,t think they indicate anything drastic unless someone else knows otherwise. Take care
