Please help, frustrated! Floating sensation, blurred vision etc

Hi,

I have this weird thing going on for more than 1 month now. I noticed it a day before I was going on holiday - It felt as though I had this floating sensation and as though I wasnt seeing straight. Everything seemed blurry or almost as though everything looked slightly off, not so blurry so I cant see it, but blurry enough to notice it.

Then the floating/lightheaded sensation got worse and it felt as though I was going to faint and my head was feeling very warm. I was among a big crowd, and looking at the people it seemed like I couldnt concentrate on them and I would get more lightheaded the more I looked at them and as though I was going to faint if I didnt sit down. Then I started getting a really big headache, which eventually went half away - but still have a pressure in my head, a little light throbbing. As the days passed, my hands started getting a tremor and now my arms feel very weak. My balance and perception of things is a little off as well, while my legs are feeling more and more heavy but still as if im floating.  My shoulders are in pain along with my neck. I went to a doctor and they refered me to a neurologist, who gave me a MRI-scan of my brain and cervical spine.

The brain scan showed no abnormalities, but it revealed a reversal of the cervical lordosis, meaning I have muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders. The doctor prescribed me deanxit, which is a antidepressant but I am afraid to use them so I havent. I went to get a second opinion from another doctor and he had some bloodtests done which all came back normal, and then he thought it might be an inner ear problem, so he prescribed me stemitil, which is a drug for vertigo. I have been on them for 2 days, but dont feel any difference.

In between all of this, I had 2-3 days where everything went back to normal.. and then one day I just woke up and it was the same. Then after another 2 weeks, it went back to normal for maybe 5 days, and then I woke up and all the symptons were back again.

What should I do? I am so frustrated since I am unable to enjoy summer with my friends and work is very hard since it requires me to concentrate. Could all of these symptons be related with muscle spasm problems or should I try another specialist? Should I use the antidepressant? Any help would be really appreciated! I am 23 years old by the way and have never had serious illnesses, only colds every 3 or 4 months, but havent had a cold since september now.

wow, maybe you should get checked for lyme disease.  I know nothing about it.  I am just not in favor of antidepressants unless necessary for depression.  I also would get your spine checked out, because something could be out of alignment. Kids can have epileptic seizures from playing video games for too long.  I don't want to get totally off-topic, but it sounds like you are on the computer for extended periods of time.  I would try to take more frequent breaks from the computer.  Also, I agree with donjoe... get checked for lyme disease, definitely.

Don't dismiss lyme disease so quickly. My husband, my son and I have it and did not have a classic bullseye rash. Only about 50% of people get the rash and it is unlikely you would feel the bite because the ticks are so small. We have the eye problems at times along with headaches. We all have the tight muscles around the neck and shoulders into the head. It sounds to me that what ever you have is effecting your nervous system and this is typical of lyme disease. If you want more info just message me and I will help you out. Antidepressants only mask symptoms. They are not a cure of anything and put you at risk for other problems with there side effects. Before I found out I had lyme my doctors wanted to load me up with antidepressants and pain meds. This doesn't fix anything. I am now in treatment for lyme disease along with my family and we are making progress. If you go to a standard doctor for you symptoms the last thing they would check for is lyme disease. Even if they do the testing it is so poor that if you come up negative you will be sent on your way thinking you don't have lyme but you still could. This is what happened to us. I took 4 lyme tests before I came up positive. So, again don't be so quick to dismiss lyme disease.

Hi, sorry I forgot to check this page for a while. Thanks a lot for all the answers so far..

Regarding the ocular migrane, I have this constantly, its not like I get a temporary vision loss. The vision loss lasts for days on end and comes back maybe 1 or 2 days. I dont get a headache once the vision restores.. Its just a constant pressure on my head and I work infront of a computer, which is where it gets worse, almost to the point where I cant look at it anymore.

Regarding lyme disease, I looked it up and it was something with a tick bite? - It said there would be a circle rash or something like that, but I dont have that at all anywhere.

Im thinking maybe I should get my eyes checked - I also started with a chiropractor since the spine in my neck is completely straight and it lost the curve that it is suppose to have. Maybe that will do something..

Regarding taking the antidepressant, arent they hard to stop again?

You should be tested for lyme disease. Neck pain and tight muscles around the neck are classic symptoms along with all of the other symptoms you have. If you need more info you can contact me. My husband, my son and myself were all diagnosed with lyme disease so I understand what you are going through. I have many journal pages written about our conditions if you want to read them.

I'm wondering if you were having an occular migrane.  You mentioned spasms in your neck.  That may be related to something pressing on a nerve.  I get occular migranes before my period each month.  It starts off with me viewing a little static, like on a TV.  Then the static gets worse.  Then I lose my peripheral vision - it just shuts down completely.  Sometimes I lose part of my vision, where, let's say I'm looking at you, I may only see part of your face.  The lightheadedness may be part of the "aura" that people experience prior to an occular migrane.  Finally, once the vision returns, I am left with a huge headache.

So, if this sounds like it... then here is my personal remedy:
As soon as I feel my occular migrane coming on, I eat something, take a multi-vitamin, and take an excedrine (which is acetominaphin plus caffeine) and I drink plenty of water.  That usually cures it for me.
