I stopped by a drug store to grab cash from an ATM. Midway through the ATM transaction, I felt a very distinct pop in the back of my head--literally in my brain. Suddenly, my brain felt like it was rolling around in my skull as if detached. Then it felt like it had gone a bit mushy. My vision blurred, my motor skills nearly disappeared, and I nearly blacked out. I sort of leaned against the ATM, and then stumbled to the side of it. I tried to shake it off -- I've had dizzy spells before, but this was nothing like that. I tried to walk, but my feet wouldn't go where I told them. I could hardly see in front of me and had zero concept of spacial relations. I stumbled a bit, blinking and breathing deeply. After tucking my cash and receipt into my wallet, I tried to shrug it off yet again and leave the store.
Minutes after the popping, I still couldn't regain myself completely and I was on the verge of having a panic attack. I braced myself up against the pharmacy building and called my parents.
It took me about 15 minutes to recover from the incident. It was so scary. I've never lost motor skills like that before and I've only ever nearly blacked out once, but that was because I was so terrified by someone else's medical crisis. There was nothing in my surroundings that would have set this off. I've not been terribly stressed out. I had eaten my two breakfasts. I'd gone out for a brisk walk in the sunshine earlier that morning. The only thing that I could think of was that I'd gotten about three hours of sleep the night before, having stayed out late partying and having to get up early to meet my friend. But that would usually just cause me fatigue. I am 26,female, a runner and practicing yoga, and very healthy overall. The only head injuries i've ever had were when I was 3 and 7 -- both times "cracked" my head open and needed stitches.
I didn't go to the doctor because I didn't know if it was serious enough to warrant a visit. I'm not sure. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
