Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The symptoms could be due to viral or bacterial infection. EBV or mono and streptococcal infection are most common. Get a swab test done. Meanwhile you can take an OTC anti-inflammatory anti-pyretic like Ibuprofen and do warm saline gargles 2-3 times a day. Drinking warm lemonade, hot clear soups and herbal tea may soothe the throat considerably.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

I have had tonsillitis a few times. I get really bad headaches/fever and shivers, and puss on my tonsils, it does not give me sore throat for some reason, just it aches at the back of my mouth, and makes talking and swallowing uncomfortable, and also lying down on my back in bed is uncomfortable. I always get treated for it with penecillon (not sure how its spelt), and then Im on the mend in a couple of days.
