I am a 55 year male who recently retired ( June 1). I started taking ChantixChantix Chantix starter pack on 7/31/2007 to quit smokingQuitting smoking Smoking - tips on how to quit Smoking and copd (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) Smoking and smokeless tobacco Smoking hazards. I quit on 8/7/2007. Took ChantixChantix Chantix starter pack for 4 weeks. On that same day I received the results of a Lyme test which came back as inconclusive. I was prescribed and took a three course of Doxycyclin. I was also given an X-Ray which showed a bronchialBronchial Bronchial adenoma inflamation (inflammation). During the middle of August I started to feel a slight tingling on the right side of my faceFace pain. I also had slight abdominal pressurePressure ulcer. On or about 9/7/2007 went back to the doctor who prescribed a 6 day course of prednisone. On 9/14/2007 the tingling on my face became more severe: Could the Prednisone have been the cause?
Since then I have had symptoms that come and go, including abdominal pressure on the upper left side of my abdomen. This comes and goes. I have also had intermittent tingling on the right side of my face. Other symptoms include intermittent burning soles of my feet and weakness in my arms and legs. I have had a CAT scan and MRI of my head and they have been negative. I have also had a CAT scan and xray of my chest and Abdomen, again the results are negative. I am scheduled for a EMG and also scheduled to visit a gastroenteroligist.
Could the prednisone be responsibe for my symptoms?
Also am pre-diabetic
Did you ever hear of a "herx?" Sometimes, I have read that prednisone makes Lyme worse. Could have been a herx from the doxy, how long is 3 courses of doxycyclin? Do you have a LLMD? (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor?) maybe try to go to www.LymeNet dot org. Post under "Medical discussions." The lymies there know alot. Hope this helps.
I had never heard of Herx. The three course I referred to as a mistake, it should read a 21 day course. I do not know if I have an LLMD, but at this point in time I am certainly losing faith in his oveerall ability.
Thanks for the tip, I will check it out.
