Right Upper Quadrant Pain - status post cholecystectomy (10 years ago) - neg CT

by pinkg3m, Jan 17, 2006 12:00AM
For the past 3 years - every 6 months or so I've been getting this pain in the upper right portion of my abdomen.  Each time, the pain is so bad I end up in the ER and they diagnose me with something different each time.  Normally the pain goes away in a day.  It's been 3 days now, I was in the ER yesterday and they did a CT scan and said it was negative.  They did bloodwork, and took urine... said everything was fine.  The pain is constant and seems to be worse on an empty stomach.  I had my gallbladder out 10 years ago when I was 14 (laparoscopic).  It hurts to walk, sit, lay flat... constant pain... I have taken pain medication that does nothing for it.  They gave me pain meds through an IV in the ER and that didn't help either.  I am going to see a gastroenterologist on Thursday.  It is just an office visit because I have not been diagnosed with anything. Any idea what could be wrong with me?

Did you ever get an answer to your pain?  I see that it has been a couple of years since this was posted.  I have many similarities to your pain; it's frustrating to have negative tests over and over again, yet needing help in an emergency room.

Hello, I have had prior problems also with right upper abdominal pain status post cholecystectomy.  I am wondering if it is possible if I may have some adhesions from scar tissue which do not show up on ct or mri.  I had a lot of pain after my tubal ligation, for years.  They went in and done exploratory surgery and found adhesions.  I hope this helps and I hope you are doing better.
