Right side pain and numbness

A little over a week ago I woke up with what felt like a pulled muscle in my neck, which causes stiff neck and pain in my neck and shoulder on the right side.  Two days later, it had radiated up to my jaw and ear (still right side only) and sometimes would cause me to feel pain behind my right eye-sort of like a migraine. A day after that I had pain at the base of my skull on the right side alone with an almost burning sensation in my neck and shoulder.  Two days ago, my right arm started to tingle and have mild pain and yesterday the pain increased and the numbness became more prevalent in my right arm shooting down to my hand and causing my pinky and ring finger to go numb.  All of these symptoms are constant, every day for the past 10 days, with certain symptoms flaring up at times and others coming and going.  I saw a doctor who prescribed me soma, vicodin and naproxen.  The soma helped me to finally get some sleep, the vicodin took the edge off but never took away the pain or any of the symptoms and I can't tell if the naproxen is doing anything at all, it definitely doesn't feel like it is.  I should mention, one of the days I got the same symptoms on my left side when I woke up, but they were only there for that day and then gone the next.  Sometimes it feels like my right eye is lagging when I blink, but only slightly, this normally happens the same time that my ear feels full and numb on the inside.  I plan to go to urgent care tonight, to hopefully get an x-ray done as well as see a chiropractor on Saturday and a dentist next week.  Hoping one of these specialist can eliminate where the problem is originating from or help aleviate the pain and numbness.  What could be going on?

Well, I hope you find out what is going on. I personally would see an orthopedic surgeon (not for surgery for a diagnosis) and get a MRI with and without contrast. I also think it is the upper back problem. I agree I don't think it is heart related in this case. I also wouldn't see a chiro and I don't think they have the experience to really work with you the right way.  But it is up to you. Let us know what they say.
take care,

Thanks for your reply.  I am seeing a chiropractor tomorrow and they are going to do xrays and a full physical.  I went to a general doctor and to urgent care and they both just prescribed my an anti-inflammatory, vicodin and soma.  The pain switches sides sometimes and the numbness has subsided.  My neck and shoulder are still tight on the right side, but my neck just feels stiff in general.  I also have lower back pain, but that is fairly normal for me.  I don't think I was having a heart attack, as most people will tell you signs for a hear t attack in a woman take place on their left side and I only had sever symptoms on my right side as well as numbness ONLY on  my right side.  My jaw hurts more now, which causes me to believe I might have TMJD.  I am seeing a dentist on Tuesday. Hopefully everything goes away, and this all gets figured out! :(

you need an MRI with and withouit contrast of your cervical and thoracic spine.

it sounds like you may have a herniated disc.

if you start lsoing power or strenght in your arm, go the emergency room asap.

get the MRI; DO NOT go to the chiropractor until youi have a diagnosis.

Shelbell408, I'm not a doctor or nurse and have nothing to do with the medical profession, but you just scared me to death!  Honey, those are classic symptoms of a heart attack or stroke.  You need to see a neurologist ASAP and in yesterday!  Go see your family doctor, go to the ER at your nearest hospital.  I've learned for a long time now, that women have different symptoms that men do with heart attacks and stroke signs.  You definitely do have signs, so please, please, go to have this seen about before you wake up some morning and find out you didn't survive the night!  Please keep me posted.  I'm a nobody, but not bad company or listener!  Cheryl

I wonder if you injured your back. Perhaps there is something pinching  nerve in the spine.  I wouldn't go to a chiro they are not experienced enough for this and usually end up hurting more than helping most people. I would head to a orthopedic surgeon and get an MRI. They can pinpoint where the pain is originating and do the MRI based on that. Sometimes people just wake up with a pinched nerve like sciatica  or other types of back pain. I think I is a nerve being pinched and it is radiating to other places. Just an idea.
