Right side throbbing pain

When I say right side abdominal pain, I don't mean on my side.  It's on my abdomen, on the right.

It happened a few months ago and I saw my gyno immediately, convinced it was ovarian.  It wasn't.  I had extensive tests, no cysts, no nothing.

It is happening again now.

The best way I know to describe it is that it starts as a sharp pain that almost doubles me over, then just throbs severely for several minutes, subsides into a dull ache and then goes away.  This entire episodes lasts maybe three minutes.  The throbbing is what really hurts.

I do not have any other symptoms that would lead to appendicitis, so I don't think that's it.  I can't pinpoint any specific time it happens.  It's happened both in the daytime and woken me up at night.  The first time it happened, the dull ache lasted for hours.

The exact location is on my abdomen, directly below where my rib cage ends on the right.

Any thoughts/ideas on what this could be? I have an appt with my doctor in a couple of weeks, just wondering if I could get some ideas in the meantime.

Have them check for kidney stones as well.  They cause severe pain as they are traveling through, then the pain stops when they are at rest.  So it could cause pain on/off over an extended period of time.  My daughter had kidney stones and caused severe pain, vomiting, blood in urine, etc... It lasted on/off for almost 2 months.  We would go weeks with no problems, then just all the sudden she'd be in extreme pain.  Just another idea to ck out.
