SEVERE ANXIETY!! NEVER HAD IT BEFORE UNTIL NOW

My life is really stressful right now and I'm taking it out in anger.  I went to my counselor to see how to resolve this issue and I started getting really bad anxiety attacks. I was hot, having heart palpitations, shaking, dizziness, light-headed, and had a tight feeling in my chest. They continued throughout the day very badly, when I was home, and just now when I was practicing piano(I could barely play because my hands were so shaky. Last night and today I noticed pain on my left side, maybe an ovarian cyst? Could a cyst be causing these symptoms of anxiety? Or is it something else? I think I might be going to the doctor to have everything checked out.

Hello,

These are all symptoms of panic attack. Panic attacks are sudden, discrete periods of intense anxiety, mounting physiological arousal, fear, stomach problems and discomfort that are associated with a variety of somatic and cognitive symptoms.

Causes may be stress, anxiety, hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, Wilson's disease, mitral valve prolapse, pheochromocytoma and inner ear disturbances (labyrinthitis). Vitamin B deficiency  can also cause panic attack. Sometimes panic attacks may be a side effect of medications such as Ritalin (methylphenidate).

During a panic attack, Breathe slowly through the nose using the diaphragm and abdomen. Do not breathe through the mouth. Talk with a supportive person if you are feeling stressed or anxious.Do not worry about the future and talk to your family if feeling anxious.Pls get yourself evaluated for diabetes ,thyroid disorders and heart valve disorders. Also take vit B supplements for some days.It might help.

If the symptoms persist then pls consult a physician. You may need anti anxiety medicines.Severe cases may require Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.

I've had experience with those types of meds too. I was prescribed anxiety medicines (Ativan, clonopin) Just for rapid heartrate. I have suffered for 8 months now . I stopped them one month ago and now am suffering withdrawal and still the original rapid heartrate constantly, over 100 most of the day. Worse in mornings, 130 120, ect. Having many other symptoms now that I didnt originally have 8 months ago. Its been horrible. I hope no one has to suffer as I have this past several months. Nothing I've ever gone through has been as horrible as this. You are right , they give you the meds and don't really care about the consequences or helping you out later. They just tell you your fine . They seem not to care.!!!!!!!!!!!! To anyone thinking of depression or anxiety meds please read alll you can first and think twice before taking them. Once you do you'll be left alone to handle the damaging effects of these drugs..                                                                                                                                        Good luck, God Bless Everyone

My advice to anyone about SSRI-antidepressants,
If you do not want to hurt yourself or others, are unable to work or enjoy your life or do simple things such as go out in public or take a shower, or are not diagnosed with clinical depression, DO NOT TAKE ANY SSRI. The FDA has been far too lenient with the pharmaceutical companies due to weak laws passed by politicians taking campaign contributions from special interest pharmaceuticals. This makes it easy for pharmacy representatives to push drugs (and easy for the family doc)that are being prescribed for other conditions for which they haven't been tested. Please make it your last resort behind all other methods of therapy, most importantly, lifestyle changes. These meds haven't been tested for long term use and have been linked to birth defects to unborn children, killing some, also sending many to the ER with crazy side effects. These are very serious medications that should never be prescribed by anyone other than a specialist,(although, I am leary of them also)
Don't take chances with these meds until you've done very much research and investigation. (I took 1 pill of Lexapro (10mg.) and have been unable to work for 3 months!!!!)I have also communicated with 7 others who have had a very similar situation to mine. Don't let the Doctors throw these dangerous medications at you or it may ruin your life. It seems that some or many people may be benefitting from these medications, and I don't claim to know everything abot them. Keep in mind, all the doctors, specialists and pharmacists that I have spoken to, claim to know VERY LITTLE about what these drugs actually do to the brain and nervous system. My point is, once you take these meds, you are on your own. If you have a horrible problem caused by these drugs, you will be alone, noone will want to help you, noone will be able to help you, you will be considered a liability and pushed aside as if your case holds no importance. I am speaking from my experience.I hope this helps at least one person make a better decision and subsequently saves many the grief that I have endured.
Thank you for reading all of this.

I would start with the ob/gyn for sure. A cyst can cause pain and a cyst can also throw your hormones totally out of balance. It is true that an imbalance (most likely too much estrogen, I am guessing) can cause the symptoms you mentioned. My sister had an ovarian cyst when she was in her late 40's and it sent her estrogen levels soaring.

I wish I knew then what I know now. As I was beginning perimenopause, I was hit with anxiety and I sought out treatment. I was put on antidepressants which did help. But, if I had known more about the delicate balance my body tries to achieve hormonally, I would have sought out different treatment possibly, such as natural, rather, bioidentical progesterone, which I use now as treatment for menopausal symptoms.

Check out Christianne Nothrup's book "The Wisdom of Menopause." It is full of great info suitable for women of all ages. Perimenopause can start as early as the early 30's.

Definitely have the pain checked out. But, learn all you can about your body so that you will be empowered when you talk to the doctor. I was given the brush-off after a cyst was found on one of my ovaries (at age 46). I switched doctors since I knew my body pretty well and felt that something else was going on. Turned out I had early stage ovarian cancer. I am not trying to scare you in any way. Ovaries make cysts...that is what they do. But, when they hang around way too long (like for months, as in my case....seven months) or look suspicious on an ultrasound, or if there are other symptoms that need to be addressed, then get them checked out until you get the answers you are comfortable with.

Take care, Mary

If you have a cyst - yes they can cause pain. Many women have harmless cyst. i doubt that its related to stress. Have you been checked at the gyno?

Since you said that you've been stressed out, I think your symptoms are more than likely anxiety.
