What causes severe itching of the palm area only? There is no rash, but the area will get dry and white after scrathing. I thought it was caused by allergies, but my allergist hadn't heard of this symptom on the palm only. It happened on the right palm only until I had carpal tunnel surgery. Then the left palm started itching - only the palm; no other area of the hand. I talked with someone who said her doctor told her this may be a symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome. My doctor never heard of that symptom. The itching is so bad sometimes I cannot stand it. It is not constant and will not happen all the time. It will usually bother me for a few days then go away, but will just start up again at another time and I'll go through the same thing.
Ha, I have that in my palm every now and then. I get it in the back of my knee too. Just itch but dont feel like its helping a thing. I think its some kind of nerve irritation or pinched nerve. Nothing to worry about.
I don't know the medical reason for palm(s) to itch or if there is one. Here is a little humor, but a true story.
My palm itched off and on for years. I was told that when the palm itches it means you are going to receive some money. After years of palm itching I received some unexpected money in the amount of four digits and to this day I don't know the reason for it. It was owed to me (I assume)but I don't know for what or by whom. Now my palm doesn't itch any more, darn! LOL
If you're rt.-handed & it only happens on that hand then it's
probably a touch of contact dermatitis. Mine came on over night.
Next day went to work & tools I used were things like driver, pliers, etc. Later I got change & held in hand. End of day, I
was rubbing/itching like crazy. Rash was so bad I used anti itch
cream & wore a thin cotton glove on hand. Itch left? Next day,
no glove & itch back. Hand was getting pretty red. I discovered
I acquired allergy to the metal tools I'd used for yrs. The
same w/ nickles I had been carrying. I bought new polished stain
-less steel chrome tools & it stopped. Very costly but worth it.
Even watch turned on me! Have to coat base w/ polish & use a
fabric band. Wash hands w/ a lanolin-free soap or rinse w/ hot
water often & see if it helps. My eating utensils also had to
be upgraded. Bizarre but try playing Sherlock.
I have beeb trying to find out why both palm of my hands itch severly. This has been going on since I was a small child. Just the center center of my palms. There is no rash, hands not dry, nothing in all the years that I have came up with justify why this happen. It can happen for a minute or last up to 4-5 hrs. At time it feels like a spike is driven through my hands and theres a one inch diameter hole that I can feel. then it leaves.
To go a little more with this, both feet at times severely itch in the middle of my arch, same as my palms. It can be one at a time and have been as both palms and one foot. Its not a laughing matter when you have to go through life wondering what going on with your body. But for sure with me its not carpal tunal in my hands, I also been tested, there was nothing. (Still searching.)
Wow. I wonder if this could be my problem. I've had the same itch for 4 years now except mine comes with hives. The only thing I have not done is maybe the silverware thing and nickle thing. It would be great if it were that simple. Worth a try. I wonder if tyler15 that has been posting here would be interested in this info. Thank You.
All of a sudden, my hands start to itch about 3:30am. The first night it was the palm and the outside of my hands, the second night it was my palms and the front of my knees. Last night it was my palms only.
On the second night I just allowed warm water to run over my hands and I began to see 'welp'-like marks on the back of my hands and in between my fingers, and after I dried my hands they went away, and I repeated itself the next morning. I can't imagine what it could be
I have had both itching of the palms of my hands and feet. It comes and goes, but I had a serious breakout of Psoriasis several years ago. This type only happens on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. My Psoriasis is now in remission, but from time to time they begin to itch again and it seems to be when I am under a great deal of stress. Check with your dermatologist. Hope this helps.
Just this morning around 10:45 am., both of my palms have started itching and to the point that they have become red and actually hurting. Yes, I will probably have to see someone or get some anti-itch cream to stop it. I will let you all know what the dermotologist says. Thanks for listening.
Please let me know what the dermotologist says, I too have been having trouble with itching palms, first my right hand, but there seemed to have been a bite like from a spider or some kind of insect but now it has disappeared but now the left hand is itching but there is no indication of any insect bite so I don't know what is going on but it is driving me crazy. When I wash my hand it feels like a burning sensation.
I had just gone to bed last night and all of a sudden both palms started itching and I thought about the old saying and thought I must be winning the lottery because I couldn't stop stratching so I got up to see if anything was on my palms and put some anti-itch cream on them. I was feeling so sick and nausea all of a sudden and felt like I was going to pass out. So I laid down and the feeling passed but my palms continued to itch. This went on for about 10 mins. and all of a sudden the itching stopped. This morning my hands feel swollen and tender but no itching!!!!! I would love to know what caused it!!!!!
You all need to research Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. If your liver has problems it can deposti bile salts in the palms and soles. This can be indicative of a serious problem and can be the first and sometime's only symptom. A simple blood test for liver enzymes can let you knw if this is the cause.
Im 26 femal, I have been haveing these problems for about 2 years. It startsout just one palm itchy and a red bloch then few hours later the other. Then one of my heals will start too hurt, then the other to the point that I can hardly walk. It hapend yesterday afternoon and I had a hard time doing Christmas with my family cuz of the pain in my feet.
But every time my hands itch my feet hurt soon after. Every time without fail. My Dr. has know idea what it could be.
my left arm started falling asleep about 3 weeks ago, feeling like a pinched nerve... soon after my left palm and later right palm started to itch... after not resisting scratching, small little bumps start to develop underneath the skin of my palms... it also itches between fingers... I've used anti-itch cream and antihistamine with no success... I've read other blogs that suggested these were symptoms of nerve damage and diabetic indicators or wheat allergies... I'll try to cut out sugar and then wheat and see if that helps... unfortunately I don't have health insurance at the moment to find the best possible help... if any doctors read this and have any advice - please share - I'd be so thankful...
Thanks for writing to the forum!
There could be many reasons for itching. However based on the fact that you itch between fingers too, there are chances that it is scabies. There are many OTC scabies lotions which you can apply and see. Another possibility is diabetes and also peripheral neuropathy. Eczema, dermatitis too cause finger itch. You try and see if OTC scabies lotion helps. Try and find a clinic nearby that would do a blood sugar test for free.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I know this forum is kinda old, but I thought I'd comment anyhow- as I have the same situation. Palms itch ONLY. NO rash/swelling/bumps...or even redness!!! Weird. Sometimes I think it could be itching from within.
I do have a case of Poison Ivy/ Oak- but, like I said, there is NOTHING on my palms. Naturally I am going to assume that I have some dreaded mystery disease now.
What I have found is about the ONLY thing that works on my poison ivy itches is SARNA lotion. So I guess I am going to buy either that or Gold Bond Anti-Itch Lotion. The Sarna is more costly (about $10+ a bottle) but I know it relieves itching well.... topical (surface) itching, that is. I have been known to have Poison Ivy in my bloodstream, and THAT is a misery I wouldnt wish on ANYONE. As it cannot be SCRATCHED! I doubt its in my bloodstream now though, cause I'm not itching anywhere but palms. Ironic.
