Severe muscle twitching

I have been having muscle twitching all over my body. In the last 6 months or so there is not a muscle in my body that has not twitched. I was very concerned initially particularly because my father has ALS. There is no family history but it did make me very anxious which only fueled the twitching. After a while though I got over the anxiety but the twitching hasn't stopped. Now I am feeling twitching that is not just annoying but painful at times. Worst of all it happens in the wierdest places like past couple of weeks the muscle just below my ribs have been twitching so violently that it even wakes me up from sleep. I am not showing any real signs of weakness as I am working out and my weight lifting capabilty and running capability has only gone up in last six months. However so has twitching and it won't stop. If one part of my body stops twitching, another one starts. I went to a neuro six months back when it initially started and he said its probably BFS and said I should just relax. Should go and get it checked again ?. Is EMG recommended ? Is there any other options like taking magnessium supplements ? Any advice is appreciated
Thanks
grp

I have had twitching for the last 12 years and have seen numerous doctors, had every test in the book, wasted years worrying about ALS, MS, etc, etc. (Having one in my leg right now)I am still here today with the muscle twitching as are thousands of other people. Please go to this site and read up on BFS. Check out www.aboutbfs.com - it will do wonders for your anxiety levels knowing how many other people are suffering from these annoying twitches. Good luck.

Hi amythist2779, What exactly are the other symptoms you are having ? I think I am healthy in general, but I do feel fatiuge and tiredness a lot which could also be attributed to my lifestyle. Sometimes you have symptoms but you don't pay attention, hence if you can tell me what other symtoms you have besides twicthing I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Do you drink enough water? Sometimes muscle twitching can be something as simple as dehydration. It may be worth a try.

Ive had the same sort of thing start to me. Are you having any other symptoms besides the twitching? My doctor is ordering an mri because he says that it along with some of my other symptoms could be MS and not the fibromyalgia that I was originally diagnosed with.
