Shoulder and arm pain

by crspy, Apr 29, 2006 12:00AM
HELP SOMEONE.  I had an arthrogram of my shoulder yesterday and am hurting like heck.  My arm feels heaving and I can hardly move it.  I had surgery on my shoulder 4 months ago, and now I'm having problems with my arm catching and feeling like a muscle is tearing.  The doctor thinks it is severe inflammation, but he ordered more tests as my shoulder keeps popping and clicking and I seem to be going down hill rather than getting better.  I am scared they will find something, but just as scared they won't and I will have to live like this the rest of my life.

An Arthrogram is the test of choice in diagnosing tears of the rotater-cuff or glenoidal labrum.  "Popping" of the shoulder with pain usually indicates a problem with a ligament, usually a tear, and is accompanied by pain and reduced range of motion.  The Arthrogram is the test of choice. Your pain is most likely caused from the inflammation in the ligament.  Anti-inflammatories, Advil, and ice, and resting with the shoulder above the level of the heart may help with the pain.  If your problem is with a ligament, surgery is usually indicated as significant ligament tears do not heal on their own.  Make sure you use the shoulder as best you can to prevent the joint from "freezing".
