I have read hundreds or articles of people complaining about the same symptoms...an answer would be well deserved. I have some suggestions. I am curious of the humans body capability of producing the chemcial allicin on its own...perhaps with all the new "super" bugs out humans are producing the chemical allicin (the key ingredent in garlic) to assist the body in fighting off infection. It would only make sense seeings as how most super bugs have mutated beyond our control checmically, why then would are bodys not produce a chemical compound as a reaction. I am also curious if this "garlic" smell may be linked to certain types of diabetes...we all know our bodys will produce a sweet smell when our blood sugar is high...what if our blood sugars run low to often...could this be the reason? I also have had on many occautions had this type of garlic smell on my hands without consuming ANY garic products in months! BUT I know I have tendencies to be hypoglycemic...boarderline. I A1c is always just below where it needs to be...and all other tests tend to fall right on the boarder lines as well.. although I have noticed upon checking my blood sugar when I have felt really tired it has run as low as 56...These are ALL interesting tpoic I have brought up...although I am sure most the world has similar interesting topics...I would really be interested in hearing about some evidence to back any of this up...are there any studies going on that people knwo of concerning this? Is there ANY logic behind the garlic smelling hands??? The only thing I am sure we can ALL be convinced of is that I do not believe this is a world wide coincidence...definatly something I would like to study further. PLEASE reply with ANY information regarding this condition...list links for ANY case studies...documented events so on and so forth. THANK YOU!
* Foods in the onion (allium) family, including onion, leek, garlic and chive, contain pungent sulfur compounds that permeate through skin pores.
* Certain sulfur-based medications, including dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), can cause body odor and bad breath similar to garlic.
* Emotional stress - apocrine glands secrete an oily sweat when a person is suffering from anxiety or emotional stress. Sulfur producing bacteria thrive in these fatty compounds and produce a chemical by product that smells similar to garlic odor.
* In large quantities, cumin may cause garlic like body odor or bad breath
* Excesses of selenium are secreted in the urine, and the selenium-containing molecule dimethyl selenide is excreted during respiration. This molecule gives breath a garlic odor characteristic of selenium toxicity.
Skin contact with minute amounts of certain solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DSMO) anywhere on the body will sometimes produce a garlic smell or taste in the mouth and on various parts of the body.
