Solution to Why I Sneeze After Eating

SOLVED!  After 30 years of violent bouts of sneezing after I eat a meal I have finally solved it.  I have asked Doctors over the years.  I've been told it was Food Allergies, or that there's something "in the air", etc., etc., etc.!  So darned frustrating.  It's a body temperature change.  After eating a hot meal my body temp goes up and I begin the sneezing.  My father had the same problem but died without ever knowing what caused it.  I think this is also genetic.  At any rate, lately in the morning when I get up I have started sneezing because I go from a warm bed to a cool house.  Again... temperature change.  I drink a little ice water and the sneezing stops immediately!  Sucking on an ice cube also works, just melt the cube down a bit so you don't accidentally swallow it and choke.

Okay... you may think this sounds far fetched, but I promise you, I have cried over this.  The sneezing had gotten to the point where it was so violent it caused a lot of pain.  The solution is simple and no doctor has ever told me this.  I had to figure it out for myself.  I hope this helps those people who feel they are cursed with this malady because it can be truly horrible.

This is a correction to my first post.  In the morning after getting out of bed the temperature change is from being warm to being cold, so a hot drink is required.  Coffee, tea, hot chocolate.  Ice water or an ice cube, or even an ice pack on the back of the neck after eating a hot meal.

Thanks, Jemma.  But I don't understand your husband being willing to suffer with this.  It will only get worse the older  he becomes.  He doesn't have to drink a cold glass of water with a meal and it doesn't take even a whole glass of ice water after the meal.  I let myself start to sneeze, then I drink about three swallows of ice water, or I suck on an ice cube and it stops immediately.  But I don't do that unless I start to sneeze because I don't sneeze after every meal, but often enough to drive me crazy!  Good luck. :)

My husband suffers with the same - a runny nose and sneezing after he has eaten, usually any hot meal.

I read about drinking straight after eating and did tell him to have a cold drink - but no, he won't have a cold glass of water.  So he suffers.  I will keep "working on him" to get him to have a cold drink of water when he has a hot meal.

Glad that at last you have found the solution to your problem.

Best wishes
