Spasms or not??

I've been having pain in both legs and was told it might be muscle spasms.  It is not in the back of my legs, but in the front and along the outside.  It is like a drawing or pulling feeling that is very painful.  Enough to wake me up at night.  It can last anywhere between 5 mins to 1 hr.  Also affects the top of my foot and toes.  Usually rub very hard to get it to release.  Do muscle spasms last that long??  Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Probably is muscle spasms or cramps.  Do some stretches before you go to bed.

Last time I did some stretches before bed, I ended up on the floor, nearly passed out.  Was not fun...*smile*  They were just light stretches, up on tiptoes facing the wall, push ups against the wall, and up on tiptoes with back against the wall.  Prescribed by my neurologist.  I didn't even make it through the first set.  Saw GP the next day, said it was syncope.
