Stomach Pain/Inconsistent Bowel Movements/Rectal Pain

Hello,

I've been struggling with what i consider some severe symptoms for a 25 year old male, such as myself, and I am looking for some guidance on what to do next. I have been seen by several doctors now and had numerous tests completed (colonoscopy, endoscopy, CT scan of abdomen, gall bladder/stomach functionality tests). All tests for the most part have come back negative, however i continue to experience my symptoms. This has been going on for about 8 months now and i'm sick of feeling sick ALL of the time. Endoscopy showed a small hiatal hernia (that they will not operate on), colonoscopy showed small internal hemoroids (also which they have chosen not to operate on). With those two in play, i thought i could treat both through medication, muscle relaxation techniques, creams, etc. However i was wrong and have only made the situation worse i feel like.

Symptoms include: Stomach Pain (all over, including intenstinal pain), Distention, inconsistent bowel movements, rectal pain, rectal tightness/soreness, discoloration in stool (at times it is sometimes darker than usual, but no blood i dont think).

My physician suggested doing reverse kegels for the rectal pain because she believes I might also have Levator Ani syndrome in addition to internal hemoroids. After trying those, I still have rectal pain (and from what i can tell, the pain has extended into other muscles within the same region. It continuously hurts to sit down and I find myself laying on my side or stomach to relieve that pain, but thats when the stomach pain and distention kicks in.

I have taken all sorts of medication for my stomach pain,  as well as herbal supplements (which I am still on), but nothing has seemed to work quite yet. I am currently on prilosec as well for the hiatal hernia. I have changed my diet a lot of the course of the 8 months, but still cant find a steady diet that cooperates with both my stomach and rectum. Do to all of this, i have not done much physical activity in the 8 months. Any time i work out, my rectum pain will come back with avengance and my stomach/abdomen will continue to hurt as well.

please, any suggestions as to what i should do next or what i might have are appreciated. i need guidance. i am young and i know i can turn things around, just dont know how quite yet. please help! thanks!

If I was in your position, based on the symptoms you are presenting and the fact that you have had all those tests and still remain undiagnosed, I would ask my doctor for the Metametrix GI Effects Profile. It is a stool test that checks for EVERYTHING by examining your DNA. Its very advanced and extremely accurate. I know people who were in your shoes that had this test which led to diagnoses. Here is sample report:

Here's a little about the test from there site:

Advantages of the GI Effects Stool Profile

    Greater Accuracy
Microbial DNA analysis improves the accuracy of results and includes both aerobes and anaerobes. Anaerobes comprise over 95 percent of the bacteria in the gut.
    Maintaining Microbial Balance
Using DNA analysis, the specimen is placed in a fixative tube that stops microbial growth and offers a highly accurate snapshot of the microbial balance in the gut.
    Single Sample Collection
The GI Effects Stool Profile requires only one sample collection leading to improved patient compliance.
    Antibiotic Resistant Genes
DNA analysis detects organisms possessing genes that give rise to antibiotic resistance, offering clinicians a superior tool for effective patient management.
    Increased Sensitivity
GI Effects detects as few as 5 cells per gram.

Why Use Stool Analysis?

Gastrointestinal function is important for general health. The intestinal tract contains significant amounts of bacteria - some beneficial, some neutral, and some harmful. Balancing beneficial microbial flora in the gut is key in digestion, nutrient usage, and ridding the body of waste and pathogens. Poor digestion and malabsorption can lead to immune dysfunction, nutritional insufficiencies, mental/emotional disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

    Anaerobes
Anaerobes, making up over 95 percent of microbiota in the gut, can be identified and quantified using GI Effects.
    Parasites
Detects parasites in the smallest concentration per specimen - 5 cells per gram.
    Adiposity Index
Measure imbalances of the two predominant bacterial groups in the human GI tract, bacteroidetes and firmicutes, which can lead to obesity.
    Drug Resistance Genes
Identifies drug resistance genes to help with patient treatment and health maintenance.
    Absorption
Indicates absorption issues with elevated levels of long-chain fatty acids, cholesterol, or total fat (the sum of gut lipids).
    Secretory IgA
Secretory IgA is the primary agent of mucosal immune defense. Deficiencies in SIgA may be associated with gastrointestinal inflammation, intestinal permeability and lowered resistance to infectious agents.
    Inflammation
Lactoferrin is a marker of acute inflammation. It helps differentiate IBD from IBS.
    Sensitivities
Pharmaceutical and botanical sensitivities widen treatment options.

What have you done to change your diet? Have you heard of or tried the paleo diet? check out marksdailyapple.com or robbwolff.com or even the paleodiet.com. It sounds like you have a food intolerance and trying to figure out what is causing this is your best bet of relieving the pain. Cutting out grains especially GLUTEN/WHEAT and DAIRY will probably do you wonders!
