Strange Burping Needed Before I Exercise or I cant breathe

Im 33 and have been a pretty accomplished athlete playing college and semi pro football as well as rugby. Since I have been a teen I have had a condition which no one seems to have been able to diagnose nor has anyone heard of anyone similar. Often when I am doing something extremeley cardiovascular I tend to have a shortness of breathe. If I keep pushing it, I get light headed. It feels as if I dont have enough lung capacity in my chest and my performance is like someone overweight.  In football this isnt always the biggest issue because if I have time to rest in between plays I have more stamina. In rugby or soccer where there is little resting it is an issue.

But if I spend 15 minutes or so burping before a match (I can burp voluntarily), then I can run full throttle. When I am not having chest problems I am usual have one of the fastest if not the fastest times. I ran a 5:25 sec mile in high school.

Also, if I dont burp and have this shortness of breathe often by the second half or in the second game if its a quick game i will be fine and have my wind back.

So it feels like there is some gas stuck in my chest that I need to get rid of. I can not eat or drink for 12 hours and still have the same problem. Once a doctor had told me something that seemed somewhat useful. He gave me a prescription for a drug to take to get rid of the gas bubble. Unfortunately, I never actually tried this out to see if it worked. I have never seemed to have asma I dont think. I dont wheeze. I just cant get enough air and it can scare me as after I push myself i often need to lay down for 10 minutes and while the light headed ness and slight nausea goes away.

Have you heard of this before?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The symptoms could be exacerbation of the GERD or gastric reflux.  It could also be hiatal hernia. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes. You will need to take a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into by a carbon urea breath test and a combination antibiotic tried. Many a times a persisting H pylori infection can be the cause behind acidity not responding to treatment.
Life style changes that will help include: Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, smoking, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Avoid lying down for least 2 hours after food. Maybe these tips will help you.
If these tips do not help, then liver function test, pancreatic enzymes, and HIDA scan for gall bladder should be done. Food intolerance and inflammatory bowel conditions such as IBS, Crohn’s, celiac etc should be considered. Log in what you eat and see if there is a correlation between a certain food type and the symptoms.
You should consult a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system) or a physician for this. Take care!

Have you been to a ear, nose and throat doctor? It sounds to me that there is something wrong with your passage, not your lungs. Or you can have asthma without wheezing. I have know several people that only had attacks during activities not everyday. When they did they just used their inhaler. I have never heard of burping helping any one breath though that is strange. My grandmother had cancer in her esophagus and belched a lot. That is why I was thinking it may be something with the passage. Hope you figure this out though and let us know if you do. Best wishes.

Yes. It happens to people who need to exercise the lungs and cleansing error in bodies because of large amount of minerals is not fully used as something of a supplementary aide. It also happens to anyone who has a blotch somewhere clogged inside the body. The northern aurora is able to use ionizations to identify the specific disease. The best way is to remove the materialis  using orange-peutronetics of the orange citrius. For mineral balance, a platinum-terracotta material as necklace or pendant can help. I hope it answers some basic questions.
