Sudden Dizziness, rapid heart rate

The other night I was watching a movie.  Suddenly, I started feeling really dizzy.  It didn't last but for a few seconds and then my heart started pounding at about 135 bpm.  It felt like my heart was about to come out of my chest it was pounding so hard.  Then, after is started to slow a little, I got extremely cold and was shivering really bad.  It all lasted about 30 min and then I was fine.  I was just a little shaken up.  What could have caused this?
It wasn't an anxiety attack I know.

Hi

I am glad we are on the right track.

I would suggest you see your thyroid specialist. Maybe you need to adjust your medication after testing for thyroid status. Also please get your blood pressure monitored on a regular basis say once in 15 days since you do have a history of low blood pressure.

Normally prolapsed mitral valves are asymptomatic and any symptoms arising out of it will usually not detected by an EKG. Since you had a recent echo and a mitral valve prolapsed was detected and left untreated I feel that may not be the cause of your dizziness and heart pounding. However I would suggest you see your cardiologist since you had this symptom. Please discuss with him why you are having low blood pressure problem too. Left side chest pain that comes and goes could be due to heart or even due to acidity (what we call heartburn).

Please let me know if there is anything else you wish to know and keep me posted about your health.

Thank you for responding to my question.  Actually, I do have a history of thyroid disease and I am currently taking levothroid. That is the only type of medicine/drug that I take.  I do have a problem w/ low blood pressure and experience symptoms often.  I had an echo done about 9 months ago and is showed mild mitral valve prolapse. I forgot to mention that I have had some chest pain on the left side of my chest that will come and go.  I'm overall healthy.  I'm 26 yr. old, 5'9 and weigh 127 lbs.
Could this be a heart disease?? Every EKG I've had in the last couple of months are all normal as well as the echo (with the exception of MVP).

Hi

I am glad you reported the problem at the first go. This problem could be simply due to drugs, lack of sleep, panic attacks, high blood pressure or due to heart disease, diabetes, temporary loss of blood to the brain called TIA or a thyroid problem.

You already said you are not anxious but are you taking any drugs or have you stared any? Do you have a family history of diabetes, heart disease or thyroid problem?

Please immediately consult your physician about this. You may need to undergo some blood tests for this.

Let me know what your doctors say. If you need more help, please feel free to contact. I’ll be happy to answer your queries.
