Swollen tonsils that won't go away

I have had swollen red tonsils for 3 weeks now. I was tested for strep and it was negative, and the culture that was sent off was also negative. After my throat not getting any better after two weeks the doctor said that it must be a bacteria they did not test for. I was prescribed penicillin and I'm half way through the medication today and my throat doesn't look much better. Should I go to an ENT? What else could be the cause for this? I have had mono before.

You could be dealing with a resistant strain. Did the cultures  and sensitivity come back?

Another possibility is Epstein barr, or mononucleosis.

Hello~I would complete the entire prescription, if your throat is not better, I would see an ENT. Also, if possible, try gargling with salt water and vinegar during the day, this has been known to stop sore throats, also, take Propolis; this is a natural supplement made by bees, it actually acts as an antibiotic. Adding extra Vitamin C and Vitamin D will also help.

I hope you feel better soon.
