TMJ syndrome

I have all the symptoms of TMJ syndrome (dizziness, headaches, temple pains, ear fullness, neck soreness) EXCEPT for jaw clenching and/or tooth grinding. Could this be TMJ syndrome?

Hello,

The primary symptom of TMJ syndrome is pain in the jaw and muscle spasms which can ultimately cause jaw clenching. The other symptoms that you are having are secondary symptoms.

Some of the other conditions which are associated with such symptoms are sinus headaches and cluster headaches.
Sinus headaches are caused by sinus congestion and inflammation (called sinusitis). In cluster headaches there is severe shooting pain and is located behind the eye (periorbital) or in the temple, sometimes radiating to the neck or shoulder. Both of these are associated with dizziness, temple pain and ear fullness.

In my opinion, consulting a physician/ENT surgeon will be better so that all these three can be evaluated after examination and diagnosis can be confirmed.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.

If you have been diagnosed with TMJ syndrome, and you have dizziness... Can you describe what it is like?

I have had dizziness for 11 months now. Been to many ear specialists (ear pain, headaches, constant popping) and they can never see a problem when they look in my ear. I have been going thru physical therapy for what is thought to be minor disc protrusions in my cervical spine (according to MRI). This is not helping the dizziness. Also, the same physical therapist is administering VRT (vestibular rehabilitation therapy) because she thinks my vestibular system is messed up...

Physical therapy is not really doing anything. I still have ear pain, headaches, constant popping and crunching sounds in ear when talk and chew. Still dizzy, especially when I look around, and I have the occasional vertigo attack.

I saw my dentist about this.. He said the most he can do is make a mouth guard (expensive) and I can try that for a while and see if it helps.

It seems difficult for any doctor to rule out weather or not TMJ syndrome might be related to the problems I am experiencing.
