Twitching

by potts20, Dec 24, 2007 01:42AM
I am curious as to why I twitch a lot.  I just sit there and then all of a sudden my leg or arm twitch, and sometimes my hands and feet do too.  Does anyone know what causes this?  Is it because I had a baby?  After I had each of my kids, I had muscle spasms and twitching for awhile, but it eventually went away.  I just had my last baby in Sept.  Could that be the reason for me twitching?  It is pretty scary not knowing what is causing this.  Thank you, and Happy Holidays.

Low levels of magnesium within the muscle and nerve cells can cause twitching.
The cells need magnesium for all the enzyme processes, and when it is low, lots of problems result.
Low magnesium can also contribute to mental health symptoms, like anxiety, depression, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and more.

I would suggest that you take magnesium supplements.
There are several forms of it.  Magnesium oxide is cheap and often used in multi-vitamins, but it does not absorb well in the intestines.
Magnesium glycinate and mag taurinate are more easily absorbed.  You have to look at the list of ingredients on the bottle.
This is the one I take:  Source Naturals Ultra-Mag, contains magnesium citrate, taurinate, glycinate, and succinate.

You'll need to take 400 to 800 milligrams daily, in divided doses.
Almonds are also high in magnesium.  You can buy a pound of them at the grocery store, and eat several ounces per day.

Something else that will help with anxiety is Omega-3's.
You can get this by taking flax seed oil or pharmaceutical quality fish oil capsules.
If you do a google search for fish oil, magnesium,  you will find information.

You need to be as healthy as you can to take care of your precious children.
Be sure to talk to them alot, and to read to them as often as you can.
This will help their brains to develop so they'll be able to learn in school.

Wishing you the best,
Carol
