Two year old wakes up and can't walk, drs are finding nothing.

Our two year old son woke up this morning and couldn't walk. He was perfectly fine last night but when he oke up this morning he would walk a little bit and fall, walk a little bit and fall. We noticed he falls to the left, like his left leg gives out on him and he falls. When sitting down he can't even hold up his left leg not even to the slightest and when he bends down to pick up a toy or something it's like he doesn't have enough strength to stand back up, he has to have help standing back up. He went to the doctor and had labs done, an xray, and a cat scan and everything came back normal. Has anyone else gone through this or know what this might be? We are searching for any kind of answers.

In a tropical country I would have suspected poliomyelitis.I am sure you have covered your child with vaccine and did not visit abroad where there is prevalence?

I know you've already taken him to a doctor, but I would suggest getting him in to see a pediatric neurologist.  They would really be the best type of doctor to investigate the cause of this.  Whatever it is - it's not normal for a 2 year old.

Does he also have weakness in his left arm/hand or is just strictly in his lower extremity?  When he smiles, do both sides of his mouth go up the same or is one side more "droopy"?  Does his one eye droop?  Is he reaching for things with his left hand (if he was before)?  Any change in his talking - talking less, less understandable, slurring?  Any vomiting/changes in appetite?

Also forgot to ask if he's just recently had any of his immunizations?  Any new foods or drink added into his diet in the past couple of days?

Thank everyone for the responses. He only had weakness in his lower left leg, everything else was fine and normal. They ran a number of test and found nothing. By bed time that same night he was fine and has been every since. Took him back to the doctor and they ruled it as a sprain because he was back to normal. We thought that maybe he pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve because of how quickly he was over it and back to normal. If it happens again, we will be taking him to a neurologist.
