UC and WBC

Okay went to the Dr last thursday a GI dr he did a colon on me a few months back and found out I had an inflamed large intestine. So he started me on ascaol that didnt help at all. So now I am on prednisone I started at 40mg a day 8 pills a ay for 2 weeks then 7 a day for 2 weeks went back to dr and he said reduce down weekly now 6 for a week then 5 for a week and so on, Called back today for blood work and the nurse said the WBC is still elevated I am concerned because the dr is thinking I may not have ulcerative colitis now???
Anyway since saturday I have had severe diarreah and its waking me up at night with real sharp stabbing pains. I thought that the prednisone would control this? Please someone explain what is happening to me here.

I have had all kinds of test done I did have an sexual exposure and I stopped testing for hiv at 84 days so thats not a concern. I dont guess?
Something is going on and all biopsys where negative for anything he got a confirmation antibody test done that cost me a lot of money that came back positive for UC

Hello,

How are you?

Did the doctor ask for differential WBC count?Raised neutrophils are found in bacterial infection,Raised lymphocytes are found in viral infections such as glandular fever and  lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL),raised eosinophils are found in parasitic infections, asthma, or allergic reactions and raised monocyte and basophils are found in monocytic leukemia, chronic ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis and leukemia or lymphoma respectively.

Long term use of corticosteroids can cause features of cushing’s syndrome but abdominal pain is less likely. However, ulcerative colitis causes both diarrhea and abdominal pain.Has sigmoidoscopy and biopsy for ulcerative colitis been done?

InHIV the white blood cells are decreased ,not raised. So raised WBC means an infection and inflammation only.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted.
