Uncured Filariasis

by sstiwari, Aug 26, 2006 12:00AM
In October 2002 i had slight pain  and tenderness in left side testis and some of the ducts emanating from there but no swelling. The doctor gave me cephlaxin for 3 days and it subsided. The pain started again after a week and this time doctor gave again some antibiotics and Diethyl Carabmazime Citrate (DEC)100mg td for 3 days and it subsided again. No more medicine was recommended by doctor and the pain again came back after 4 days. Again doctor asked to take Diethyl Carbamazime Citrate for 21 days and said it was filariasis. I was perfectly well till i took medicine and just after quitting the medicines after 21 days  the pain started again but with a bit of burning sensation in scortum both sides, in the pubic area and in thighs and sometimes in hands also but no redness and swelling. Doctor asked me to take DEC for 21 more days. i was fine till i took DEC and again just after quiting it started again. Since then i have been taking DEC or an specific ayurvedic medicne for filariasis(and it really works but till i keep on taking it) every now and then for 21 days. In October 2003 i saw a doctor from a big hospital and he got me tested for filaria antigen but the result was negative. He said it may be a case of occult filariasis and asked me to take DEC continuously for 8 to 9 months and then quit(he said adult filarial worms do not die that easily and they are giving me troubles and they live for 5 to 8 yrs and  i may have to cotake the medication repeatedly with albendazole). and i have been doing so..... Is Is it really filariasis or something else.

Here is a link that describes in detail filariasis.  Pay particular attention to the section labeled "Differentials". (These are other diseases that may have your same symptoms).  Directly below that section are complications of filariasis.

You might want to print that article out and discuss it with your doctors.

Best of luck to you.
