Undiagnosed Symptoms

Hello, recently my mother admitted herself to the ER due to have a rash over body, pain in the legs, knees, wrist, hands shoulder pretty much all over her body.  The doctor tested her for meningitis as well as did a spinal tap of which all blood work came back negative.  The pain is so bad my mother can barely walk and anytime she moves her joints aches with excruciating pain.  The ER doctor gave her meds for the pain and rash of which the rash is slowing going away but the pain in her joints is still there.  She doesn’t have any precondition autoimmune diseases that we are aware of but she does suffer from hypertension, neuropathy in her feet, and carpel tunnel syndrome.  We have no idea what is going on with her??? She doesn’t have the flu although she did have a bladder infection that is being treated with medication...When she went back to her primary doctor she was referred to a rheumatologist for further testing, if anyone have any idea of what this can possible be please assist, we are clueless???

Hi,
Sounds to me like your mom should go see a rheumatalogist.  I'm not trying to be negative, but don't expect a diagnosis quickly,  I hope she does get one, but I've been fighting an autoimmune disease for most of my life and they still can't tell me which one I have.

Good luck.

My mom's condition is not progressing although the rash is going away she still feels very nauseated and her joints in her hands, wrist, arms, and lower back are aching with pain. She has also lost her appetite and is very nauseated and weak. Today, she regurgitated  some black stuff we are unsure if it was blood or the food mixed with the medication she's been taking..I am trying to convince her to go back to the ER but she is hesitant because they couldn't diagnose her the first time she visited the ER. If you can provide any add'l information I can provide to the hospital in regards what to look for i.e. Tests that would be great. Thanks.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Well, joint pains with rash can be seen in SLE, psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, polymayalgia rheumatica and chronic fatigue syndrome. Gout, though typically affects the great toe, can cause multiple joint pain with rash. Hashimotos Thyroiditis is another possibility. Hayfever and rheumatoid arthritis too should also be ruled out.
Another possibility is reactive arthritis, which could have occurred in reaction to something—in this case rash. In this case you need to rule out the cause for the hives or urticaria. Urticaria is usually triggered by allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Food allergies like to gluten and alcohol too should be looked into. You may need to consult an allergy specialist.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
