My mom has been suffering from unexplained weight loss, stomach pain, inability to eat, nausea, and fatigue. The doctors have told her she has gastronitits and irratiable bowl syndrome. But it has progressively gotten worse and her doctor doesn't know what it wrong... Does anyone have any clue what it might be?
Welcome to the forum!
There are many causes for these symptoms like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Poor absorption as in irritable bowel syndromes and malabsorption syndromes too is possible. Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease.
Keep a stress diary and see which food items are causing your mother’s symptoms to worsen. Lctose or gluten intolerance is also possible.
I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system). It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
