Unexplained Bruising

Thanks to all that posted. I am a 55 year old female who also has had blood vessels pop in my hands without any injury. The bruises were preceded by pain that felt let my hand was hit by a hammer. About ten years ago I went to an armload of specialists (vascular, cardiology, rheumatology, orthopedist, internal medicine, emergency medicine) none of whom ever heard of this problem, but pronounced me in otherwise excellent health. I have low blood pressure, take meds regularly for allergies, not overweight, recently started taking hormone replacement therapy.  I just had a serious adverse reaction to Crestor, which I recently started taking and the bruises started again, for the first time on the instep of my foot, which is taking longer to resolve.  I was recently identified as having a high iron level and slightly elevated red blood cell count. I am worried that I will wind up with a lung aneurism, heart attack or stroke at some point if the vessel that decides to pop is located in my lung, brain or heart. The last doctor (a rheumatologist) ten years ago was so incensed that he, a prestigious MD from Harvard Medical School didn't know the cause, that he recommended I go to psychiatrist. Needless to say I did not follow Dr. Harvard's advice as I do not think the bruises are psychological and thought his advice was based on ego rather than factual understanding.

Any advice would be welcome.  Thanks.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you are not on any medications like anticoagulants, blood thinners or birth control pills then this could be due to clotting disorders, low platelet count, fragile spider veins, deep vein thrombus, deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid, or Vit K, a liver disease or certain cancers. It could also be due to pressure urticaria. If you are on medications then you need to discuss that with your doctor. Rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease too can be the cause.
I am sorry but a confirmed diagnosis is not possible on net. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined for conditions that have not been looked into. Take care!
