Unexplained Swelling in Legs and Ankles

by teso67, May 20, 2009 03:03AM
My wife recently began to experience swelling in both legs and ankles. The doctors cannot find anything wrong and all the blood work came back negative. No one seems to know what to do next, is there anyone that has any ideas, this is becoming very depressing for her and I feel terrible as I will be deploying again oversees and don't want her to hurt.

I am assuming that basic bloodwork looking at the kidney and liver function were done, since diseases here can lead to swelling.

Also, swelling can be due to medication side effects, so this should be reviewed with her physician.

If the tests continue to be negative, looking at the heart can be considered with an echocardiogram, which can look at cardiac function.  A low number here can lead to swelling as well.

These options can be discussed with her physician.
