Very shaky and cold with unpredictable fever

Hi,

I am 15 years old and for the past two or so days I've had a (probably flu) that has been getting gradually worse so it seems. At first I just had a really bad runny nose, and then gradually on Friday I started getting a high fever. I no longer had much of a runny nose.

On Saturday morning, the fever seemed like it was gone; my temperature was around 98. Later it came back even worse to around 103 and bounced down and back up gradually (without a cold face cloth). Around mid-day I had chest pains not due to hacking but they were gone in a few hours.

Last night I couldn't sleep at all hardly because I was constantly coughing and hacking a dry cough. For the past few hours now when I cough my stomach feels like it constricts and pains. For the whole day I've been mildy shaky and my fever was around 101-102 (101 after using a cold face cloth for a bit). Now for the past few hours I've been shaking irresistibly (I feel like I'm really cold, but my temp at the moment is 102.2). My mom says it is warm, and looking at the thermostat confirms that.

Should I have anything to worry about, or is it just a bad cold / flu that will dissipate? The last time I had something like this was years ago and I was up the whole night vomiting (at first vomit and towards the end just dry attempts, it hurt). That was food poisoning I am pretty sure, not the flu.

Thank you
Tyler

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Well it does look like viral flu. Take any OTC antipyretic analgesic like ibuprofen, and an antiallergic decongestant. Other possibility can be a bacterial throat infection and sinusitis. You need to take complete rest, drink plenty of hot fluids like soups, ginger tea or warm lemonade. This will take care of dizziness too.  If symptoms do not subside in another 3 days consult your PCP. Generally viral fever takes 4-5 days to subside and causes chills and fever.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
