I have learned a lot about Vitamin D deficiency from reading all of these posts. I am still wondering, though, about the relationship between Vitamin D and calcium. My calcium is on the high normalNormal saline flush side, meaning if it goes up by .2 it will be out of range, and my Vitamin D is very low. My PTH test was normalNormal saline flush months ago, and my Lyme test (for whatever that's worth) was negative. I have had symptoms that you have all described here - muscle and joint pain, numbnessNumbness and tingling and tingling, muscle twitching, headaches, TMJ, clicking in my earEar barotrauma Ear discharge Ear emergencies Ear examination Ear tube insertion Ear tube insertion - series...the list goes on and on. So, my rheumy said that I need 2000 IU of Vitamin D dailyDaily combo Daily multiple for men 50+ Daily multiple for women Daily multiple for women 50+ Daily multiple vitamins Daily vite Daily-vite men's formula Daily-vite weight control, as well as calcium, 600 IU. I started taking this dosage a few months ago and many of my symptoms subsided, but my existing heart symptoms (arrhythmia) were exacerbated, maybe due to my calcium. So, I stopped taking it and now my symptoms are back. I'm going back to the endo on Monday, and I really want her to look further into a parathyroid problem. Can a person have a parathyroid problem with a normal PTH? Does taking Vitamin D increase calcium levels in the blood? I am 43 and have osteopenia and feel far older than I should. Any suggestions on how I should approach this with my doctor? Thanks! Lily
I am 44 years old, female. Vitamin D deficiency can cause all sorts of problems. Including pain, numbness, migraines fatigue, obesity, soft bones, eye sensitivity to sunlights, etc. You must however realize that you need to stay on a good dosage consistently to see real results. I am now on Vitamin D for 1 and 1/2 years. I have had huge improvements in my health in the last few months. I am not perfect I need to fiddle with the dosage sometimes. I have to take the Allergy D Caps or I get horrible heartburn. I take one Calcium carbonate 600mg with 800 mg of Vitamin D in AM and 1 Calcium carbonate with 400mg of D each PM. I cannot miss a dose or my body aches. I take Vitamin E for leg cramps and fatigue. I take 5000 IU of dry Vitamin A for acne, which is completely cured. Each of us have different nutritional needs. Each of you needs to listen to your body. I notice that the vitamins I seem to need the most are the ones the liver needs to metabolize. So now I avoid most medicine tylenol, ibuprofen so I don't further tax my liver. Notice which foods help your energy and which foods/vitamins zap it. Some foods can upset your stomach or sooth it. Some will give you leg cramps. I can't take magnesium even though every article says I must. We can't just all eat the same fruits and veggies and feel good. Some of you need meat and some don't. We all need to try to figure out what is best for each of us.
