What causes high fever night sweats stomach spasms and back pain?

My husband has been sick for about a week. His symptoms started with a severe headache and upper abdominal/stomach spasms. The spasms were crippling. He has a high fever from 102 to 104 and night sweats our bed is soaked in the morning. The fevers are highest at night. He's been to ER twice has seen his GP and a GI specialist and nobody knows what's wrong. It's do frustrating not to get answers. They've done urinalysis numerous blood tests, ultra sound chest X-ray, barium upper GI test and everything is normal. He did go to Mexico about The weeks ago (symptoms started 7 days after he was home) does anyone out there know what this could be?

It really sounds like food/water  poisoning that he got in Mexico. Did they do a stool culture?  Also, did he get bitten by a mosquito or tick? Did he walk barefoot on the beach?
